Spent $100 on a steak.. would YOU eat this?

Slim pickins rigtht now when it comes to steak with good marbling. I spent $80 on 2 ribeyes at $38/lb and another $20 on ingredients. The steak themselves only had "OK" marbling, compared to before food supply shortage bullshit.

The first one I messed up, so into the trash it went. This is the 2nd one.

I put some peppercorn, sea salt, garlic, olive oil and let it sit for an hour to get to room temp, then fried it on the stove with a cast iron pan and put butter and thyme on it. I sauteed some mushrooms before cookin the steak.

Would YOU eat this?

I don't mean to sound harsh, but it looks like the problem lies between the kitchen and the plate. You destroyed it.

Jesus Christ. $100? No crust, overcooked and is that a paper plate? There are hundreds if not thousands of youtube vids on how to cook a steak in a cast iron pan.

Unless "messed up" means it was burnt to the point that it looked like charcoal , you eat that shit.
<CanYouSeeMeNow>

100 bucks for that? Nope. Cant always tell how something looks from a photo, but you should up your presentation and photo taking abilities.
Steak on top of rice, bits of rice on top of the steak, a PAPER plate(?), and mismatched cutlery?
At best, I would feed it to my dog.
<DisgustingHHH>

i wasnt going to be harsh but since the cat is out of the bag you really screwed the pooch on this one mate the thread and the steaks i mean you even tossed a whole one jesus fucking christ get it together

You gotta get a big pot of boiling water, like the one you use for pasta. If you have left over salted pasta water from the night before, it’s fine to use that water.

Preheat oven to 550.

Take your steak and put it in the boiling water for 15 minutes. Time will vary based on size of steak. After fifteen minutes put it in ice water that you prepared beforehand. This will stop the cooking process. This whole process is called blanching, kind of.

Grab your cast iron pan. Put on medium/high heat. Grab your steak, don’t wipe any of the water off cause you want that splash effect. Place in pan and lightly brown all sides. Not too much browning cause then you get that crust and that’s messy and hard to chew.

once all side are somewhat brown take the whole pan and put it in the oven to get warmer. Take the steak, throw it on a cutting board and cut into two pieces. Then toss those pieces into your cast iron pan that is in the oven.

Bake for 45 minutes or until internal temp in teh 275. Yum.

Bro, that's definitely edible but ribeye is the hardest steak to fuck up. I've been doing it Martha's way for 10 years and it's never failed me. This is for +1" thick steaks and if they have good marbling, you don't even need any oil on the pan. Cook time is less for thinner steak but those won't be as good. You need to heat the cast iron pan at max heat for 5 minutes before putting the steak on. Cast iron seared on both sides, medium rare in the middle ribeye at home was a game changer for me.

Martha knows her shit:

Take this as a lesson on what not to do again...

Everyone fucks up.
