NFL Speed and the NFL

In 1950 Bob Boyd won the NCAA 100, then off to the Rams where he had a 1000 yard season. he was far faster than the DB's of the 1950's. But he is lost in obscurity it's always Bob Hayes the first fast WR, well that simply isn't true.

Way back when Don Hutson was blowing by defenders with his 9.8 speed, which was fast in his day.

Just think the Rams had future Hall of Famers Tom Fears, Crazy Legs Hirsch and that speedster..

While at Florida A&M Bob Hayes was a fullback, the runnigback back was fellow 4x1 teammate Bob Paremore a 9.4 guy.

That has gotta be the fastest fullback/running back combo ever.

Paremore did get an NFL look by the Cards, guess not.

The best Florida A&M running back was this guy.......

The reason he never had a 1000 yard season was because he shared carries with stud fullback Rick Casares, one of the first Thunder & Lightning combos.

dude i am reading your times here for these guys you putting 9.2 9.3 seconds not even usain bold is that fast he got 9.58 not even usain bolt has 200m times these nfl super humans so call have

One thing that is being ignored....

Most those coming from the NCAA are 22/23ish, sprinters don't reach that prime until 25-27ish. So as fast as these guys are they can get faster in the NFL as they get older.......to a point. Around 28-30ish the prime begins ro erode a bit..

I already explained that, come on guy actually read, ok?

Here in the USA we ran the 100 YARDS up until 1975.

All that 9.1, 9,2 9,3 is for 100 yards.,,,,ok?

It goes like this.....

9.0.....9.9
9.1....10.0
9.2.....10.1
9.3......10,2

Ok guy?

Bob Hayes ran 9.1-10.06

So give me that soccer 4x2 and 4x4, ya can't can ya?

When I first got into pro football the fastest cat in the league was a Colts cornerback Lenny Lyles he was out of Louisville, he had made the USA 100 yard finals. That was around 1959ish.

Then just before Bullet Bob shows up in 64 the newest Fastest NFLer was Villanova 9.2 Olympian Frank Budd an Eagle.

That is where it all startd for me. My Niners had another Olympian Ray Norton a WR 9.3/10.1.

Also in 64 there was Henry Carr the Olympic 200m champ. So the NFL had 4 Olympic sprinters. But, way before them and me was Ollie Matson an Olympic 400m bronze medalist, talking 1952. And before him the 5-4 Buddy Young an NCAA/USA champ in the 40's.

Now all that was a long long time ago.

Who can talk speed in soccer or rugby, well?

The comment about being a 40 champ is BS, but.......he was an NCAA/USA 100 champ.

How can anyone argue soccer vs NFL if talking speed, that makes no sense at all.

So many great sprinters in the NFL over the years, great sprinters in soccer, nay~~~~~~~

I get the cardio thing yep, superior cardio for soccer, but if talking speed not close at all.

Soon to be Bengals WR Tommie Smith running a World Record 19.5 200 straight,

In his career he ran 11 world records.

He beat Olympic 400m champ Lee Evans in the 400 and ran down Olympic 100 champ Jimmy Hines in a 4x1 relay,

Saw him come from way back on a 4x2 in Fresno around 66, he would run down New Mexicos Bernie Rivers a 20.5n guy, the crowd going nuts, his split............19.5
