NFL Speed and the NFL

Would ya believe......

Baseball legend Jackie Robinson was an NCAA long jump champ at UCLA, and his older bro Mack won the Olympic 200m silver in 1936 chasing Jesse Owens. Jackie still holds the UCLA longest run from scrimmage record......99 yards,

Gale "Kansas Comet" Sayers led the nation in the long jump (HSers) with a 24-11 jump, and his older bro Roger was a world ranked sprinter who once beat Bob Hayes,

Niner cornerback Jim Johnson a Hall of Famer is the younger bro of Olympic decathlon gold medalist Rafer Johnson.

Actor Woody Strode also rassled , once beating Gorgeous George.

At the 1960 Olympics our womens 4x1 team was Tennessee State with Wilma Rudolph on anchor. A college team won the gold, a first and a last.

In 1932 none of our 100m sprinters ran on our Olympic 4x1 but.......we won anyway. Another first and last.

Speaking of that Olympic 4x1.....

In 1964 two of our 100m guys Mel Pender and soon to be Eagle Trenton Jackson pulled up in the heats, they were injured and done. So we bring in our 200m guys Paul Drayton and Richard Stebbins to go with Gerry Ashworth (last white cat on our Olympic 4x1) and Bullet Bob Hayes.

Keep in mind this team was just thrown together they had no chemistry at all, no practice as a team, so no wonder at the final exchange Bullet Bob a soon to be Dallas Cowboy was a good 5 meters down when he got the stick, here's what happened......

A legit case can be made that Bullet Bob was the fastest NFL player ever. The guy ran a world record time 11 times.

In that relay Bullet Bob ran a 8.6.........think about that, an incredible 8.6. That is stil a...WHOA....in 2025.

A WR 10.06 on a dirt track over 60years ago obviously trumps all other times by NFLers to be.

He ran that 9.1 WR for yards four times.

Hayes was a converted running back out of Florida A&M. He must have been pretty good since he was chosen to play on a college all star team that would beat the NFL champs.

Bullet" Bob Hayes played wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys from 1965-1974. Hayes earned the title "World's Fastest Man" after winning gold medals in 1964 Olympics in the 100m and running a sensational 8.6 split on U.S.'s 400 meter relay team. The former Florida A&M star was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys as a junior in the seventh round of the 1964 draft.

I don't lie guy, unlike you I only talk about things I know about.

So you actually knew nothing about the old 100 yard dash, how is that even possible?

From 1920 to 1976 the fastest NFLers

What about this can't you figure out?

The men’s 10,000 meter (an upset victory by the American runner Billy Mills) and the marathon (Abebe Bikila’s 2nd Gold medal with shoes) are followed right to the end showing the last finishers. The 1968 Marathon finish would have its fair share of heroics.

Of course, we have Bob Hayes individual 100m victory over Harry Jerome and the famous 8.5 second relay leg in the 4x100m.

Jocelyn Delecour, France’s anchor leg runner, famously said to Paul Drayton before the relay final, “You can’t win, all you have is Bob Hayes”.

Afterwards, Drayton replied, “All you need is Bob Hayes”.

Dude, if you knew this stuff you'd be well aware of that 8.6 4x1 split. Hell there it;s 8.5, this is legendary to track geeks.

fica...........dude, let it go its totally obvious you know nothing about any of this at all. Soccer guys faster than WORLD CLASS sprinters, what is a 9,2, not knowing about that 8,6,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,come on rookie, let it go, ok?

In all my years of doing this, this one wins the DUH award.....

fica, Bolt runs 9.58 what is these fake 9.2 9,3........hahahaahaha~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Bob Hayes, a sturdy running back/sprinter from Florida A&M, runs 9.1 seconds in the 100-yard dash not once but twice at the AAU national track and field championships in St. Louis.

However, only Hayes' performance in the semifinals is allowed to stand as a world record. That's because the wind was 7.75 miles per hour in the final, above the allowable 4.473 mph for record consideration.

Running with his elbows out and his knees uncommonly high, the thick-shouldered, thick-muscled Hayes bolts into the lead at the start of the semifinal. The 20-year-old senior-to-be turns it up another gear in the middle 50 yards and breaks the world record of 9.2 seconds set by America's Frank Budd in 1961 and tied by Canada's Harry Jerome (twice) in 1962.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Hayes wins the AAU final for the second straight year. He will go on to win the gold medal in the 100-meter dash at the 1964 Olympics and then become a Pro Bowl wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys.

I did assume anyone talking about speed would be aware of the above, guess not,

9.5 world record.....Eddie Tolan Michigan
9.4....Frank Wykoff USC
9.3....Mel Patton USC
9.2....Frank Budd Villanova
9.1....Bob Hayes Florida A&M
9.0....Ivory Crockett Southern Ilinois

Now all those times above were tied many times by a gang of sprinters.

i do not know why you comparing 100 meter dash with 100 yards dash not even close to being comparaable. guys that run 10 sec or more 100meter dash is much more impressive then runner shorter distance then 100 meter.100 meters are 109. 1 yards so your so called world record guy run 90 meters dash and you comparing their time with guys who run 100 meters.you need to understand 100 meter dash/100yads dash not even close in distance traveled

100 yards dash is 92 meter tops so no world record was ever held by nfl guy and how can soccer play held 100 m record when they never run high school track that is only thing nfl players have over soccer players they run track in high-school and never saw track ever again

You are giving al 1960 people none present or if you don't have answer you bs with hill high school times.only guy on record who went to track heat in last decade is dk metcalf who lost to level d sprinters and soccer player by .10 of second. See this is verifiable only time nfl player dared to run officially sanctioned track meet and failed miserably who cares about things 6 decades ago

That 9.0.

The tall guy behind Crockett was the 6-4 Reggie Jones Tennessee he was a 9.2 guy,
