It seems that our planet had enough. Prayers for Spain and its people.

RIP.

158 dead and rising. This is third world problem. Spain, wtf???

The death toll will most likely be at least double than that. You guys know nothing about what is going on down there. No european country would have been ready to deal with the flash floods in Valencia as in one day there was more than a year worth of rain. It probably is the worst storm-related natural disaster in Europe in the last five decades.
What's a real mess is what's going on now, which is shameful.

It might be just the news coverage but Spain has had some extreme weather the past 2 years. First they went through an extreme drought in 2023 and now extreme flooding this year.

South. It has been a bit warmer than usual in the rest of the country, but down south it's been pretty bad. They've been dealing with draught way longer than that btw.

I've traveled several times to Spain for work in the last 2 years and it feels a lot like a third world country.
I know the feel, back when I worked in ships, back in the mid 00s, I was stationed on a cable layer for 6 months in Galveston,TX and got to know the area and it felt like a total shithole. Never seen more homeless, druggies, ran down neighborhoods, ugly and dirty looking streets, insane pollution, worst and most insalubrious beaches ever, fat and awful looking people ...
That's when I realized how the real US is.
Bottom line: you set foot on a shitty area = you make up your mind on how the whole country is

Bottom like: you set foot on a shitty area = you make up your mind on how the whole country is
10 points for insalubrious

We almost had this happen in Minnesota this summer. We got rains like we never had here before and a dam failed, luckily it didn't completely fail and public works people were able to divert some of the water. If not a whole town of 50K people would have seen a flash flood they didn't see coming in time to evacuate.

One place had a year's worth of rain in 8hrs. That will fuck up anyone.

A large part of the problem is development in the wrong places putting people in harms way, and unprecedented effects of climate change.

It's gonna get worse!
