So I just got an email confirming my purchase of a $2000 portable power station.....the only problem is, I never ordered a power station.

I log into my bank account, and I see that the charge has been posted to my credit card. Long story short, I called my credit card company and secured my account.

Where things get interesting is that the order confirmation has the person's address and name.

How should I play this..... I am tempted to pay a visit to Mr. Aman Narula, but I don't trust myself to stay calm. The alternative is to do nothing and let the bank do its thing, or perhaps call the police? I'm not sure how the latter works - they are obviously doing something illegal, but I'm not sure how seriously the police take things like credit card fraud.

I feel slighted and vengeful.

If you're not going to stomp him out, at least call the cops. I'd guarantee your not the only card he stole, and maybe you could help out some other poor bastard that this sack of shit robbed.

I'm still leaning towards stomping...

Aman Narula might be an innocent victim too.

There are all kinds of scams where people try to con others into sending them stolen merchandise.

They might call Mr. Narula and say "Hi! My name's Michelle and I'm a big-breasted American single woman. I ordered something and they told me they accidentally sent it to your address by mistake. Would you mind meeting me at Starbucks so I can get the package from you? I'd be ever so grateful. Here's a pic of me in a bikini. I just moved here and don't know anybody so if you're nice maybe we'll be friends."

I would, with a name like that, make a few calls to some three-letter agencies.

That sucks dude. I believe the dollar amount qualifies it as petty theft or grand theft. This value fluctuates state to state in the US. Not sure about other countries? I'd imagine they'll be more likely to persue and prosecute if it's grand theft.

I'm sure the fun way would be to give him a hospital bill for 10 times that amount, but unfortunately, the authorities never seem to look upon you favorably for taking things into your own hands. Even self defense can require a lawyer and will cost you in some cases if arrested. Stay calm, and stay free. The bank / credit card company might have filed a police report already, but I'd defer to them for how to handle it on your part.

Update: Called the police and they actually sent out an officer to my house to start an investigation. As another poster mentioned, the cops feel like this guy is probably scamming multiple people, and they are serious about cracking down on fraud.

While it isn't as satisfying as going to his house and slapping him, it's good to know that the police are going to be paying a visit.
