Bagwork Some bagwork from today

Do you think out of all the kicks Frode, front kicks are the worst for your knees in the long run?

I have that feeling.

I have that feeling.

There was a study in the early 2000s that said that martial arts kick actually is a secret behind keeping your knees super healthy long into old age.

Of course it still depends. Hard sparring where you eat hard lowkick can make it worse.

But i think training on those soft puzzle matts most commercial martial arts gym uses, can affect your knees. The pivot isnt good on those.

But i dont think kicks themselves will make your knees or hip bad. At least as long as they are done with right techniques.

I still can do all my kicks from my toolkit. At my age of 46. And that includes kicks from kung fu, muay thai and capoeira.

Grappling, wrestling and MMA will fuck you up.

Same with ego lifting in the gym

Pretty much. Low kicks, grappling and ego lifting are by far the worst when it comes to injury.

Taken into perspective boxing is safer than BJJ for the joints. Not for the brain yeah but that depends how you spar.
