So Khabib got offered GSP or Nate Diaz for UFC 200

"Yesterday the UFC called me with a proposal to hold the main bout of the evening against Nate Diaz, or against Georges St-Pierre," Khabib said during a live interview on Match TV. "They hope that I will take the fight. But it is four days after the month of Ramadan, and it would be hard physically to fight five rounds. I'll be back in September and October."

I respect the fact that khabib under no circumstances will alter his beliefs for a paycheck. Honestly how can you not.

Doesn't seem likely to me. If they had the chance I'd imagine it would be GSP vs Diaz.

Maybe I should've said a real US sport.

Professional fighters csnt miss fighting the entire summer, a prime time to sell big ppv numbers.

It doesn't prevent him from fighting the entire summer just a month or so.

Him and GSP would be pretty epic.. or not. But ramamsamsnadan.

I get it if he doesnt "fight" during Ramadan, but not even training? this is just dumb, i know its his religion, but it is messing with his professional life too.

Can't really train hard when you are fasting...

He claims people duck him, so he gets offered a huge fight but doesnt want it hahaha pathetic. and yes any mufti will give you an exemption from ramadan if its important.

They offered him a fight he can't take due to religious reasons.

Sounds like BS

The ufc know Khabib isn't fighting, they wouldn't go back to him and say here 5 million, forget your religion.

This is why people saying "Ramadan's no big deal, it's just like a month" are short-sighted. Its effects stretch beyond just that month. A guy can't even train during it so he won't be ready for a fight until months after. It takes a significant chunk of the guy's time away, annually.

yeah but he JUST fought. Hed likely not have been available to fight so soon. I agree its annoying to some people, but Khabib delivers when its time. He shouldnt have to save cards at any given oppurtunity

Yeah, in mid April. The fourth month to the 9th or 10th month is a massive period of inactivity. That's almost half the year.

That could work but it would still not be an ideal situation. Sleeping during the day isn't the same as sleeping at night. Believe me I've done it for years and then did research on it and found out it's not the same. In fact I think people who work overnight have a much shorter life span as well.

Right. And that makes sense. I'm certainly not suggesting he do it full time or do it 1 week before his fight. But I'd think to at least get something done during that time. It would be better to work out lightly at night as opposed to just do nothing. And maybe he does do some light work after sunset but just not a full hardcore camp.

During ramadan its not just fasting, youre suppose to concentrate hard on being good to people, doing charity, prayer, meditation and reflecting on life etc.

It is pretty hard during summer months. Incorporating a hard training camp for something as demanding and mentally/physically exhausting as a fight is not reasonable or safe.

i wonder how it was for fedor training during the easter lent, with all the fasting.
if you are being serious about it, i imagine one is weak as fuck during that long-ass time.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Ramadan prevents you from eating from sunrise to sundown. What's preventing Khabib from moving his fight camps to night hours? For example wakes up at 6pm, breakfast at sundown, training and eating as much as he wants and a big supper before sunrise.

Then he can go on with his Ramadan fast and go to sleep at 10am. Sure it's hypocritical but so is religion as a whole...

You have to recover from working out, when you are fasting you will not recover well from the previous workout. I used to wrestle and I would lose about 5-7lbs in a practice and I was smaller than Khabib is, doing that then not being able to eat much would not be possible for a month, a few days for a weight cut sure, but not a month.

Damn you, Khabib! I got so excited when I read the thread title! I would have really liked to see GSP vs Khabib, that is a wrestle-fest that I would be totally into.

He can't train for 1 month out of 12, so what?

Just don't book Khabib for 3 months out of 12... Ramadan and the 2 after. That way he can still fight 2-3x a year if he stays healthy.

And now that he's finally back I don't believe he will get injured again.

I think a lot of people don't realize that, during Ramadan, you are also not allowed to DRINK during daylight, it's much more harmful to training than only fasting. And about training at night, it would fuck up your sleep and still be terrible for your preparation.
