So I started collecting vinyl again

I'm on a roll with the 1986 metal pressings lately. All I'm going to say is... Thank God I had a $100 gift card for the record store I went to lol

I don't think I ever want to hear that album again, because I did it to death as a teenager. However, I can still admit it's a 10/10.

Was in Norway for the week last week and ended up picking this up in a small record store

lol, I understand. I certainly haven't overplayed it at any point. But I feel that way about some albums... although so much time has passed with some I might be open to give them a listen again.

I will say, this pressing is a Masterdisk and man it sounds amazing

Mailday!

Would have loved to get my hands on a first US pressing of the first QOTSA album with the alternate cover but they only pressed 1500 of them in 1998 and they go for $500+

Although I saw they repressed that record with the original cover with the blonde chick in Europe a couple years ago.

I finally started selling vinyl on Discogs and got inundated with scam links telling me to verify my card details as a seller.

Almost fell for it, being my first time selling it doesn't seem unreasonable, luckily I pulled out at the last second

Back to eBay I guess

Started buying CDs again and then bought an external CD drive and burning CDs again as well. Vinyl is a bit overpriced these days but maybe when the wife and I settle down in one location I'd consider it

Another steal on the level of the Manson record.

Went to the record store and picked this up for $150. They had it labeled as a 1998 first UK pressing. After doing some investigating on discogs and YouTube... Turns out this is a 1997 worldwide first pressing.. which routinely sell for $350.

And this pressing sounds incredible.

So unless I find an incredible deal on the simply vinyl pressing... Going for the $40 bootleg. I'm actually impressed how good this sounds for a boot actually. Doesn't sound suppressed.. But does have a little bit of surface noise that you can only hear on very quiet parts of the record. Otherwise the bass and high end sound good.

Yeah, bootlegs have been around since at least the 60s. Mostly in the 60s and 70s it was live performances (see Neil Young getting bent out of shape in a Hollywood record store video below).

But a lot of 90s records are bootlegged because the originals are so damn expensive because so few were produced and they don't have recent represses (like the MM album and Tool - Aenima). So your only option is to fork over $500 plus on the original or get a bootleg.

But, once the official represses come about, it makes the bootleg version utterly worthless and they don't bother producing them anymore because they cost just as much as an official pressing. So if they do an official repress of the first two MM albums, or Aenima or Alice in Chains self titled. I'll buy those and sell my bootlegs.

And when the official represses come out, they bring down the value of the way overpriced original presses.

I'm looking for a decent turntable and speaker combo. It doesn't have to have all the bells and whistles, but I'm looking at spending $200. I know I won't get crystal clarity at that price, but just something decent.

Any recommendations?

I was just talking about this with my coworker a couple weeks ago and came across this. I know it's bit higher than your price range but I think this is a great setup. I have these edifier speakers and honestly when it comes to a bookshelf speaker, it's the best bang for your buck.

AN AUDIO-TECHNICA SETUP FOR LESS THAN $350?!??!

I had no idea such a thing existed! I had no idea it was even possible!!!

This is gonna be awesome! It might be a minute before I pick one up (basement leak), but when I do, I'll post pics!

Sherdog to the rescue... AGAIN!
