Damn that's a bit harsh.

The guy had 13 wins all by stoppage. Maybe it wasb't his thing and maybe he wasn't high level but waving him off and saying he didn't have any talent there is a broad brush to paint with.

There are some details that I’ve picked up from studying Cummings that make the position harder to counter like that, but yeah, the typical way of holding it is very vulnerable to a hip control counter if you don’t already have the heel exposed and sometimes even if you do.

I am not nearly good enough to write off Cummings outside ashi material as being dependent on having shorter legs. I will say pretty confidently that I think a lot of his outside ashi details do seem to work a little better though if you have shorter legs. I used to love that position a couple years ago and now I feel very vulnerable playing it unless I already have the heel exposed or if I know I'm a good bit better than the person I'm rolling with.

I applaud the man. Not everyone is able to recognize they have a problem, nay, addiction, to leg locks. Hopefully by this time next month he'll be sweeping and passing just like a regular person, maybe one day enjoying the occasional social ankle lock if he thinks he can fight the temptation to go full bore again.
