So can Soccer Players make for good MMA fighters?

I don't remember what TMA he's a black belt in (or equivalent) , is it TWD ? It was obviously partly, some kind of way to make him even more special for the storytelling, but it did gave him some VERY unusual agility and flexibility. He's also naturally big, powerful, and charismatic.
IIRC there's like 2 teams that won CL just the year after he left (at least inter and Barcelona), he really was unlucky. It doesn't mean much though, there are a few players, like Ronaldo (R9) that never won any C1 despite being world class, which zlatan obviously was.
His physical condition allowed him to score at a high level until recently, despite his age, really a one-of-a-kind player.
His kicking game could've helped in MMA but he really was more a loudmouth than a guy really interested in fighting. He just pretended and that was enough.
haha Great post,

Yeah indeed TKD.

Just came across this article to find that a lot of Brazilian UFC Fighters played World Football (Soccer as Americans call it) before joining the UFC. However, surprised to see that dudes like Kenny Florian and Conor McGregor played soccer as well.

I wonder if the balance, cardio, and footwork of soccer can transition over well into the Octagon compared to a lot of other sports out there, even the ones that get more physical. Your thoughts?

Oh and article in question

Historically, I actually think they do make good fighters. I'm not a soccer player, but there are a lot of high level fighters that used to play soccer -- Aldo, JDS, Florian, Mousasi, and others. Some of the best wrestlers I've competed with actually had backgrounds playing soccer as well; you wouldn't think they do, but I feel evidence suggests that they do make good fighters.

Zlatan would beat Alex Pereira

I don't think Dana would meet his demands, he was paid 1.2 M€ per month during his 4 years in PSG (roughly) amidst a 20 years career in top teams, each paying very well (but Paris under qatar ownership was obviously the most "generous" lol), not talking about sponsorship deals, contract signing bonuses (usually a lot) and the fact that he became a guy known even by people who don't really follow football, he probably has a huge following, granting him free internet money whenever he wants to.

He is probably rich enough to buy AP now though, lol. Well, in shape he's 195-205 lbs, for 6'5", could've made a nasty LHW but I think he made the better life choice, health and money wise.

Some do lol

But yeah, i've never understood why anyone tries to compare Football and American Football outside of the fact they share a name. Rugby is far more comparable, regardless imagine telling someone like Duncan Ferguson he's a mentally weak pussy.

"In 2001, two burglars broke into Ferguson's home in Rufford, Lancashire. Ferguson confronted them and was able to detain one of them, who subsequently spent three days in hospital. The second man managed to flee but was eventually caught."
Seems to have done a more efficient job than Anthony Smith.

Imagine big Dunc wrapping his hands around the red goofs throat??

Almost all males in Brazil have played football at some point in their life. It's just that popular. It's the default sport. Same in the Netherlands.

Ciryl Gane was a soccer player since baby to 15 (dad was a pro player) before switching to basketball from 15 to 23.
His footwork certainly benefits that experience I believe

Shogun Rua dreamed of being a pro soccer player, and apparently played at a high level (enough for his matches to be on TV, ) but ended up giving MMA his all.

Better to be a famous & successful MMA champion, rather than a nobody soccer player... I got that from a 2005 Fight! Magazin interview, French edition.

A lot of fighters probably played little league baseball too. I'm not sure how much it would help in MMA.

The things I think soccer would offer are nimble foot movement, and a gas tank. Kicks in MMA and soccer are pretty different so that could go either way.

Yes ofc they can, but guys like Aldo etc could never become a pro football player. Sorry, but when i saw Aldo in some vlogs playing football it was so bad, not even kids on amateur level in brazil play that bad. His story about becoming a pro football player and that he chose mma is bs lol.

He was forced to wear it after Basal Skull Fracture.

BTW Jiri Prochazka have background in amateur football. He played for his native village and often used to get red card for fighting.

(He recently played for his native village A-Team)

No way, I knew he was a football hooligan, but didn't know he played himself. Good find :)

Remember Joe Rogan used say that Aldo was so good at leg kicks cause he was form Brazil lol. (cause brazil are good at soccer)

Yet another utterly ignorant and stupid comment from Joe.
But this is from a man who thinks Covid is a hoax and that Graham Hancock speaks the truth.

Yall think wand, cro cop, and shogun develiped those kicks without having played soccer before?

Ameritards in this thread can't handle the fact that football(soccer) players are much better athletes than handegg players.

It gets me though. Football GOATs like Tom Brady genuinely respect soccer players but it is the B-level football dudes who could never see the field in college and fat redneck retard fans that diss soccer.
