At work today and the weather was great outside. Warmest it's been all season.
The company I work at is in a tower right downtown. Lunchtime had all of the street vendors out in full force.

So I'm out there with food I got from one of the trucks, eating outside and enjoying the weather.

A homeless guy comes up and asks if I could spare some money for him.
I rarely will turn a homeless person away. But to the same extent, I understand the value of personal dignity and earning your money.

So a couple of minutes into having the guy do jumping jacks while singing the National Anthem some bossy lady who had no business sticking her nose into my entertainment comes up to ME and says "you're despicable!".

I stand up, toss a few bucks on the ground at the guy's feet, and get right back in her face "oh yeah? Where is the money YOU gave him?".
She says, "you're unbelievable! You have him doing the jumping jacks while singing... while you sit there like an a-hole laughing!"

To which I remind her, "he's getting good money for doing this. It's giving him a sense of self-worth... and all you can do is find something to complain about."

Oddly enough her antics embolden some other people to start chiming in.
Next thing you know there's 4 hens clucking at me about how I'm some jerk.

Well, as luck would have it it's right AT THAT TIME that another homeless dude, who I said I would give a few bucks to if he ran down to the next block to the convenience store and get me some orange juice, comes trotting up with my orange juice.

I look at him and say "guy, you couldn't have come back at a worse time." Uncomfortably I toss a few bucks at him.
As you can imagine it just further kindled their fury at me.

Anyway.... it's weird how you try to help people and all it does is piss others off.

When I was on the streets I rap battled some ***** on the side of Colfax, Denver, Co and won a can of Rolling Rock.

You're story was much too long to read, but I imagine I know what it's about...

I remember one time when I offered my lunch (sandwich) to a homeless man, thinking I was doing my good deed for the day...the guy had the nerve to ask what kind of sandwich it was!

I was shocked...but couldn't stop laughing!

Good thing it wasn't me... I'd rap circles around you... then toss you a few bucks to do some push ups.

You're an a-hole because everybody knows he's just going to buy booze with the money. You should've just given him the booze directly.

Jesus said to love the poor and help them anyway possible. I haven't done this yet but I would offer to buy them a meal instead. If they accept, then I would want to give them some money. I've never done this but it is something I would like to do.

i dont think she was mad @ the money part. shes prob mad @ the humiliating the guy part.

@ least make the guy do somethin productive like pick up trash or recycle (lol @ jumping jacks + national anthem)

You are always welcome in the rap battle thread.

A little something I've been working on:

Shells lay around on the battleground
Dead bodies are found throughout the town
Tried to put shame in my game to make a name
I'm a put it on a bullet...and put it in ya brain
Rip the block like a buckshot
who cares where it goes, just keep the casket closed
no remorse when a life is lost
I paid my dues, paid the cost
and my pockets are still fat
where ever I'm at I get the welcome mat

TS, you're not despicable for having the guy do some jumping jacks, but BEFORE you gave him money for food? Come on. You need energy to do jumping jacks and energy comes from food. Next time, make a deal that you will give him food money if he THEN comes back and performs jumping jacks.

That's how you separate the truly needy homeless people from those that are just doing it for fun.

Maybe... I guess I see what you mean.

That's why I just spit on them and tell them to get a fucking job... Feels like I'm doing my bit and all that.

I used to give this crackhead named Ray Ray change for doing back flips off of mailboxes. One time I gave him a couple of beers and he offered to knock someone out if I needed.

Entertaining story.
