Small dog was snatched by a seagull

The seagulls in Europe are huge compares to ones in our country (Australia). We had one brazenly snatched a croissant out of our hand while in Italy.

They really would surprise a lot of people with their size, they're also aggressive AF, I think back, and they really have come more inland over the last 20 years, now they are a permanent fixture in retail parks/ malls with food courts, 15 years ago I was surrounded by a shit load of them when I was in Manly, still greedy bastards that fought over the sandwich I threw them, but not even close to being half the size of the ones I see on a daily basis, those fuckers could bully the money from my pockets.

Yeah, I live in the US and the seagulls are smaller and more timid here. I've eaten full meals in front of flocks of seagulls before and they were too scared to directly challenge me for the food. They basically rely on snatching dropped food or someone feeding them or maybe stealing when someone looks away. But they don't really fuck with people here.

friend of mine had his dachshund taken by an eagle when we were kids.

I couldn't imagine having a dog that tiny, a lil terrier or something that is convenient I get. But a dog that you could accidentally squeeze too hard and break. or have eaten by the neighbors cat?

I witnessed a large seagull kill a large pigeon last year.

Gulls are a big problem where I live. I was attacked by one last year and have had similar incidents to that.

I was at Tim Hortons and someone got a package of something and I watched him put it on the roof of his car while he fumbled with papers or something and a seagull swooped down and grabbed the paper bag and flew off

I was astonished and had to laugh and the guy was like

"Did that just happen"

I would like to hear what @Arqueto has to saw about this

Just as likely that it was a bird of prey. Their numbers are coming back strong in the suburbs and they have an abundance of small pets to choose from. They're breeding in every state.

Yep. Bald Eagles are back in Illinois for the 1st time since the 20’s or some shit.. they stick to the rivers and water areas normally but I think they’re pushing the other birds of prey to the neighborhoods as I’ve seen tons of Hawks and Falcons flying around now in areas you used to never see them in..

On topic.. seagulls aren’t exactly equipped to kill animals and eat them like a bird of prey.. wonder what the method for killing the dog would be.. but yeah, that dog is dead and gone. It’s not like the bird took it to a secret lair and is holding it captive like an evil villain or something.


Can’t imagine how much trauma something like that would cause the owner. I mean, that’s gonna replay in your head for eternity witnessing something like that happen to a pet you’ve attached yourself to. No body to bury, nothing.. don’t even know where your little friend wound up..
