Skyrim Special Edition

Thanks for the knowledge guys , I continued with the Breton and got to level 6 last knight . I still haven't found any good weapons , I'm running around with a two handed axe , praying I hit them first in battle. I did get a nice bow I think but I'm terrible at shooting arrows and fighting.

I still haven't touched any magic or potions really I have to learn that , I've just been eating the food when my health is low.

Also I didn't know there was difficulty , in fallout 4 I felt like my guy became to strong eventually , should I increase any difficulty now or leave it as normal? The challenge is always fun.

Did you start the storyline for the Companions yet? They are the clan that is based in Whiterun. The first quest takes place in Dustman's Cairn and it's full of goodies. I had to make a few trips between there and Whiterun in order to clear it all out.

Also, did you recruit Faendal or Sven in Riverwood? I prefer siding with Faendal in the love letter quest since he can teach you archery.

My character is also a Breton and I like to carry 1 type of each weapon (1 single with a shield, 1 double, 1 bow) at a time. If I am traveling on the world map, I always have my bow equipped in order to get the jump on any enemies that I see approaching me.

You can leave the difficulty as-is for now. You shouldn't feel like you're overpowering for quite a while.

Ya i just discovered the Companions and joined them! so many goodies i dont even know where to start. I just really want a dam good sword and shield for now. I'm getting rocked. Also i have 3 perks apparently saved i just learned there is so many to choose from. Should i just do light armor, one handed or two handed for now? Also i learned the guy has healing potions! that i awesome instead of eating potatoes and cabbage. Ya Sven is rolling with me, Don't remember Faendal maybe i talked to him.

I ended up wandering around a misc mission and saw these giant troll/orcs and they scared the crap out of me i ran the other way but ended up getting destroyed by some witches and a master witch trying to retrieve The flower. I couldnt aim and hit him with the bow and arrow.

Any magic suggestions on how to start off? Do i just equip the magic and then that's all i have as a weapon?

I've never played Skyrim before. I chose Nord as my race. Was that a bad move?
Me too. The frost resistance is pretty useful but more importantly, Skyrim belongs to the Nords!

I'll only answer your question about magic. You learn new spells by reading books. You can either buy them to a court mage or find them. Once you learn the spell, you got to determine what type of spell it is. Lets put them in 3 types: damage / defense / other.

For a damage spell, it's either instant damage (ex: firebolt) or constant damage (ex: flame). Just open your magic screen and select the spell you want in the hand you want (right / left). At first, you will cast a spell with only 1 hand. You will be able to cast with 2 hands later but let's not get too far ahead.

For a spell like firebolt, let's equip it in your right hand. You have to hold the button until your casting hand has finished the animation movement (1-2 seconds) then release the button while aiming at your enemy. The spell will fly out and hit him, with varying accuracy. Practice is key, try hitting rocks and trees at first then you'll get the patern.

For constant damage spells, they normally work at close range. Let's take Flame and equip it in your right hand. Wait until the enemy is in front of you or get to him. Just hold the button and the flames will start flying out your hand until you have no magika left. Very effective but you gotta be near danger.

Defense spells are normally instant spells. Let's take oaklesh. It gives you a bonus to your armor, a must for a warrior. You just have to cast it before the battle and the effect will remain for the indicated duration. If the spell wears out, you can just step away and recast it. There are also constant defense spells like Wards but I don't advise you to go into that territory yet...

Others are utility spells like healing, transmute, muffle, invisibility, etc. They can be very effective in various situations. They are normally instant spells. Some have a duration, some work on the spot and some are constant. For example, Healing is a constant spell that you need to hold but Fast Healing is an instant spells that gives you a 50 points heal.

It might seem complicated but I assure you, the system is very instinctive once you get the basics. Close your eyes and jump in, you won't regret it!

Ok sweet, didn't know about the instant healing magic! Also should i use any perks on crafting? In Fallout i always relied on finding cool stuff, I never really crafted weapons or chems.

My best advice would be focus on one kind if you don't want to have a lot of things to learn. What I mean is you don't want to jump into enchanting, alchemy and smithing all at the same time! For a warrior, smithing is usefull but enchanting is even more useful: you can create your own magic items from normal items you find.

Again, it's a little complex. You have to learn the magic enchantement first. To do so, you must find a magic item. Let's say you find a dagger with "add 5 points of fire damage" magic effect. You don't want it because you normally use 2-handed swords. But you would like to get the magic effect on a 2-handed sword! Just bring the magic dagger to an enchanter table:
latest

There is one in Dragonreach, the big castle in Witherun. Activate the table with the magic dagger in your inventory. Select the option "Disenchant". You will see your magic dagger there. By selecting it, you will learn the enchantement but also destroy the dagger.

You have learned an enchantement but you need a soul gem to make it work! Even worst, you need a FULL soul gem, meaning a soul gem filled with the soul of an enemy. Let's not get into it and pretend you bought a full soul gem to the court wizard. He works in the same room as the enchanter table and sleeps two steps away: you cannot miss him!

You have 3 other options at the enchanter table: item / enchantement / soul gem.

Item is for selecting the item you wish to enchant. Let's say you're enchanting an Iron Greatsword. You just need to have it in your inventory and it will appear in the "item" option of the enchanter table. Select it.

In the enchantement option, you should have "fire damage", the effect you learned by destroying the dagger. Select it and you will have to choose how much damage you want to do. The more damage, the more charges you need. You can recharge a depleted magic item with filled soul gems.

Last option, soul gem. Let's say you bought a petty soul gem filled with a petty soul, the least powerful and least expensive type. Select it and you will get the option to craft the item. Do so and you'll end up with a magic Iron Greatsword that does fire damage to your target!

Practice and you will soon be crafting weapons, armors and jewelry to help you survive and boost your damage!

@TrippleOG I forgot to mention: the reason I advised you to choose "sword and shield" combat instead of two-handed is simple. When you use a 2-handed sword, you will sheathe it instantly when you select a spell. That's because you need your two hands to hold it and therefore cannot use one hand; you must put the sword away to cast. If you use a 1-hand sword, you wield your weapon on the right hand and your shield on the left hand. If you select your spell in the right hand, you will still wield your shield! You will be able block while having your spell in hand, a major advantage for novice players.

Experts don't have to care about it that much but I assure you, it will help you tremendously! For a constant close-range spell like Flames, it's vital: get in your opponent's face, empty your majgika tank with a flame assault then block his counter attack! Just switch back to your sword right after and keep fighting until your magicka has replenished. It's time to get into another's enemy's face with Flames in hand!

Use your "Favorite" Key to pause the game and swiftly switch between your sword and your spell while keeping your shield in the left hand. Tell me if you're unsure how the Favorite interface works, that's another explanation...

Blocking's easy to level up bro. You can just hold that shit down and let some asshole throw shots at you. I wouldn't spend gold on it

I don't like to promote too much power-leveling but you're right. There's a place in Whiterun near the temple @TrippleOG : the Hall of the Dead. There's a quest in there to retrieve a monk's heirloom. Accept and you'll be facing very low level skeletons (3 of them I think).

You can just go there, kill the two puny skeletons but keep the one with a two-handed weapon alive. Get your shield out and just block his attacks without counter-attacking. You will level block a couple of level very fast. Don't stay there too long, just use it to open new perks (at block lvl 20 or 30-40 at most). Don't ruin the game, just help yourself a little!

To block, select your shield in the left hand. Hold the button for left hand and you will "raise" your shield. It will stay up while you hold the button. You cannot attack with your sword while you block. But, if you push the right hand button while holding your shield up, you will perform a shield bash. It's effective to stagger your enemy. It will also level up your block skill so you can use it when convenient. Be careful, it uses a lot of stamina!

When you get the hang of it, a good trick is to have the spell "Flame" in your right hand. Block an enemy's attack then shield bash immediately after. The enemy will be stun for 2-3 seconds, use that time to ignite him up with Flames! When he "wakes up", just raise your shield back up to block his next attack while he's still burning from your Flame attack!

Very effective strategy.

Don't forget to read all of the books that you find.

You don't have to actually read them, just open them so that skill increases can trigger.

My next character is going to be either a vampiric Orc that is a follower of Namia, heavy armor, conjuration(necromancy), two handed, enchanting and resto OR a Khajiit sneak, illusion, archery, dual wield, alchemist. Learning toward the Khajiit as I've done the Orc before and never used much Illusion in Skyrim.

It gets progressively more expensive with each level so it's not really sustainable until you're in the late game. Maybe put some into archery if you find the teacher as that can be hard to level up.

If you train pickpocket a little bit, you can wait at night, find the trainer in his bed then train one time and let him go back to bed. Once he's asleep, pickpocket your money back! You have better chance of success when the target is sleeping. It will rarely work for big lump sum like 1000 gold but a regular training session is between 200 / 500 gold so it's good.

Train once, let him go back to sleep, pickpocket him then wake him up to train again. Repeat until the training is too expensive to steal back or you trained the maximum times (5x / level).

I got to level 8 last night , finally found a nice sword . My issue is light armor and heavy armor. I think I messed up and used a perk for both. Why is light armor really strong but weighs so much less?

Also started trying to figure out this magic stuff !

I'm a Khajiit female archer assassin

I only play female for the combat bonus against dudes that you get from the Dibella quest. For the record.

I really like how I'm actually scared to venture into the world compared to Fallout where you could just put on a Heavy Suit and venture out. My guy is so weak im actually intimidated by the weakest of creatures.

I believe you are in a very early stages of the game so the quality of the gear ain't that different. Eventually Heavy Armor will have more defense overall as the quality of the armor you find gets better. If you are sneaking around and trying to be stealthy then light armor is the way to go but based on what I read you want Heavy Armor. Stick to one type and level that... You wasted one pt.. no biggie.
