Skyrim Special Edition

Going from 360 to PC has be excited because of all of the mods that are out there. NexusMods has a number of them available already. I didn't have the DLC either so that's another plus.

I still can't believe that my character on 360 was an Imperial. My shield was quickly replaced with magic and Bound Bow became one of my most used skills. Should I try one of the elf classes this time? Khajiit appear to be another option.

also, if you're playing Skyrim for the first time, I'd suggest going the thief route, or thief and magic. The warrior subquests for the companions are very bland and the gameplay is very repetitive.

With thief you'll have access to the thieves guild, it's subplots, makes the assassins guild more enjoyable, soloing dungeons more immersive and you'll get more use out of the sneak, assassination and archery mechanics, which imo are the highlight of the game.
Thanks for the heads up... I figured I'd ask this question soon anyway.

You will want the Unofficial Patch Mod. I don't think Bethesda did any type of bug fixing so the Unofficial Patch is a must.

Yep, I heavily advise against using a sword & shield build here, it's not a fun play style.

They can be fun if you put enough points into Stamina so you can bash, and unlock the quick reflex perk. It can make fights feel like real dances of death.

ill definitely play it since i have a pc, and ill probably go my typical route (dark elf assassin scout type with one handed and archery).

Sneaky scout/assassin is the best build in skyrim and makes you play at a slowed down pace and its more enjoyable.

Being a warrior gets bland, and being a mage is just annoying because the only useful spells are destruction in this game and all enemy mages just use wards with infinite magic basically so your magic is almost useless against them.

I do wish this game had better archery mechanics though, (archery sucks ass until you have increased movement speed with your bow out)

Lastly the main reason i like the assassin one hand and archer build is because you get the most out of the guilds. The companions and college of winterhold are extremely dull, but the thieves and assassins are good, especially the thieves.
Although I agree with most of your arguments, a lot of them do not apply to modded play. For example, you say magic is bland and only destruction is useful. Have you seen all the new spells / powers / abilities you can add with mods? It's incredible: if you plan on playing a mage, you can add up to 100+ new spells and powers. Don't forget, your enemies will be using them as well and become lethal.

If you've played the game and are tired of the limited perk tree, there's a perk ordinator that overhauls the whole system. You're tired of starting in Helgen? You can have the alternate start mod. There's a mod that will change your normal loot to class-specific loot. You can add a dozen new Dragon races with new powers and shouts. The imagination of the modding community is the only limit but it seems to be endless.

I'd say that "Apocalypse Magic" is definitely one of the most enjoyable mod for a mage playthrough. Your list of spell becomes so large, you can become very specific with the spells you choose, according to your playstyle. In the end, the mage quest can be a little dull but not if you add all the side quests. Especially all the Dwemer ruins exploration and the Blackreach quest, it opens a whole new side to underground exploration!

If there's a gun mod we may never see TeTe again lol

I think Skyrim had more quests and a bigger map than Fallout 4 so you'll have plenty to do
Yes, but since the quests give no experience, the incentive is less appealing to do them all. Skyrim's system is much more interesting for "free exploration" but it's not intended for completing all quests and side quests.

You can still do it of course but at high level, there is not point: you're much better served by targeted play aimed at leveling up your perks instead of random side quest completion for XP, like in Fallout 4.

got nexus mod manager so now all i need to do is shop around nexus mods online and pic the ones i want.

The god rays look great. Definitely gonna download a shit ton of mods by the end of the weekend.

I hope for you. I take all my Skyrim mods directly from Steam Workshop but Nexus works fine too.

I highly recommend "Ordinator - Perks of Skyrim" to have a brand new leveling experience and "Apocalypse - Magic of Skyrim" to gain 155 new spells. After that, it's all up to you: I like "Diverse Dragons Collection" to spawn new Dragons with new powers and "Arch-Mage", to make your spells even stronger for end game.

@Crono139

Right now you might not want to use the Unofficial Patch. For me it was screwing up textures for some buildings at long distance. For example when I was approaching Whiterun, Dragonreach was flickering black. I deactivated the Unofficial Patch and all was well.

I'm using unofficial patch and I had a couple of flickering glitches lately. I will try deactivating it too, thanks for the tip!

Thanks for the heads up, guys.

I actually started playing without any mods enabled. Went with a Breton for the magic resistance and conjuration stat bonus.

Tried playing it twice and didn't get passed the 15 hour mark either time.

I got the full game on PC, finally, for sale for 5 bucks or something, so I'm excited about the new version.

So I was waiting like a goof because I was expecting a DLC in my Skyrim game. In fact, Skyrim Special Edition is its own game on Steam!

That means, if you're only viewing your installed games (as I was), you need to switch to "all games" to get it and install it.

A real goofosaurus...

Im a bit confused. I have Skyrim plus all the DLC's including high res textures. Bought it when on sale two summers ago on Steam. Is this version better graphically than the default games high res DLC?

Does feel great that i got the Bioshock and Skyrim remastered versions all for free : )

Yes, the Special Edition is graphically better then the high res patch. I think it looks amazing.
