Should they remove the weight limit at HW?

Should they remove the weight limit at HW?

I don't know why people act like we'd end up with dozens of Reems. Fat guys. We'd get a lot more fat guys that gas after one round.

No, it will be properly screened only to let the a small rare group get into the organization. It's going to be some bum fat fighter that can't fight from a bar.

Ok but with the current hw limit they hire fat slobs already. So I'm not sure how it follows that if they raised the limit they'd magically find these peak.athletes. They don't exist in MMA, that's why half their hw division is fat slobs to begin with.

Why not make it open weight class anyways. So if there is someone out there, to let them have a chance. Nothing wrong with that and it gives the opportunity for guys struggling to make 265 lbs to not worry about cutting weight. Like Struve or Volkov for example.

The UFC will not let just anyone get in there if they can't perform in an entertaining fashion. Or they have no skill set whatsoever.

I don't know why a few of you guys are so against it. If it doesn't work just change it back, but if it does work than we open up to something special in the UFC HW division. It will be something to behold. Like Fedor vs. HMC in Pride.

The division is dead so might as well see about some freakish fights to spice things up. LHW should go to 220. 221+ for HW
If you make LHW 220+ then basically anyone except Pavlovich and Blackbeast would be able to cut to LHW.

Keep 205lbs where it is.

There aren't many people in the world who are very athletic beyond 265 lbs. Hell, there are barely even any NBA players who weigh more than 265. And those NFL players that do aren't really athletic.

But there should be a limit regardless. Do we really want to see 400+ lbs guys in there? Nah.

I think a nice compromise would be to make the limit 280-285 lbs. Beyond that, we'd see freak show fights.
If there's even one why stop him fighting? Just remove the limit entirely. If someone like Martyn Ford was an elite fighter, then making him lose 40 kilos of muscle to take a fight is nonsense.
Barely anyone in the world is over 7 foot, but could you imagine the NBA setting a height cap that doesn't allow anyone over 7 foot to compete?

Yeah the era of freaks how fights where guys are 100 lbs+ apart in the cage probably aren't coming back. I don't want them to either personally.

If they did this I wouldn't care, but I also think it adds absolutely nothing. For twenty years now I've seen this topic come up, and during that timeframe there have been exactly 0 large athletic freaks that could fight and wanted to get into the UFC to get concussions for cheap. Most large athletes have better options than getting punched in the head, and zero interest in it unless all other options fail.

Hell yes, how could it make the division worse? its on its knees as it is, its dreadful. The division needs something, because right now its beyond bad. The worst thing that could happen is nothing would change, it can't get any worse. No one enjoys UFC HW anymore, its really sad to see. Remove 265 cap, just make HW unlimited like boxing and kickboxing.

Most people are for it and that' says it all. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

Yeah I don't care what most people do or don't want or think. Why would I lol. Appeals to popularity are dumb and uninteresting.

The amount of people that approve or disapprove of something has no bearing whatsoever on whether that thing is a positive or not.

That's high school level thinking man. A lot of people believe a lot of really dumb things. If the majority of the world decided the earth was flat tomorrow, would you just go along like a lemming or use critical thinking? Sorry if this came off as hostile and it's nothing against your idea, it's just that is realllllllly dumb reasoning to use as to why you're right or wrong about a topic, any topic.

Again no hate towards your thread or idea at all. That's just a horrifyingly illogical way to view any topic. The majority are dumb and wrong often. Appeal ad populum is a logical fallacy for a reason lmao.

It would spice up LHW and provide an interest for the real freakish HWs of the world.

The format now blows ass.

If mma were the world's primary sport, I would actually agree that there should be a 220 or 225 pound weight class. In that case, the weight classes would be as followed:

105
115
125
135
145
155
165
175
185
205
225
heavyweight/open weight (so anybody that can't or isn't willing to cut to 225)

In such a world where mma was the sport, there would be more than enough athletic men to compete in all of these weight classes just to get to the highest levels of the sport - like any other major sport. These weight classes would all be very deep in all the major mma organizations around the world.

HOWEVER: mma is not the world's primary sport. Not even close. And it is particularly thin at upper weight classes due to the social and financial incentives for athletic larger men to compete in other much more major sports.

ERGO: the current weight class system is probably not changing anytime soon.

YES. We already got a boxing match of The Mountain vs Eddie Hall, and Eddie Hall is fighting Pudz later today I think.

I want to see these 400+ pound strongmen be allowed to compete in MMA. These guys make Brock Lesnar look small.

imagine a fat 300 lb overweight getting taken down
1 takedown and hel be grasping for air

Over muscled strong men don't make for interesting fighters. Yeah, some of their weaknesses can be compensated for by intense PED usage - why not get rid of drug testing all together and make it transparent?

But in any case: the real interesting open weight fighters would be if guys like this got into mma from a young age:

The guy on the left is what 293 pounds looks like at 7'4'' with an athletic frame. Would be much more interesting to see athletic guys like that fight - who would actually have functional cardio to go with huge natural power - than a bunch of over muscled meat heads.

They used too.
