Should the U.S. Have a vote on brining in the metric system

science is much more fun when you learn how to convert kilometers into miles. We use different currencies in trade, no need to make it more complicated.
You mean make it less complicated by having a common means of measurement

The rest of the world doesn't demand America changes its system of measurement. everyone is our bitches and lucky we're courteous enough to not make them do change over to our system.

So no real argument

I'd like that but the fact is your average redneck and inner city dummy will likely vote against it, because it means 'communism' to them or some BS.

I've heard these people already complaining that Pokemon Go is a conspiracy to teach Murican kids the metric system. No lie.

They're not at a loss. Why do you have such little confidence in students that you think they can't learn two things instead of one?

Smart people will learn both; stupid people won't. But stupid people are stupid so they won't learn anything well to begin with. Because they're stupid.

These sound like the words of someone who thinks America leads the world in education when, in fact, it ranks embarassingly low.

as long as we weigh ppl in pounds im cool with w/e. Once we got to stone or kilo's i just get lost in translation and i spend half the fight trying to figure out what fucking weight class this is.

People might not be able to grasp a concept as complicated as a number system based on multiples of 10, regardless how much sense it makes.

It would be nice to have one standard fucking set of tools. That has to be the most irritating shit in the galaxy.

When I was I college the big push was to get every country to use IFRS for accounting.

But countries just started taking what they liked from IFRS and keeping other stuff they liked so you were ending up with Canadian IFRS and Australian IFRS. So the US decided to stick with GAAP since it wasn't going to be uniform worldwide

The same reason I don't advocate teaching Latin it's useless and a waste of limited time children have in school

Learning Latin isn't useless; it opens students to a world of literature that they can then read untranslated. Germans take Latin, and they're outperforming us, academically. If you want to emulate the Continent for something, let it be for their reticence to abandon Latin.

Well I don't know what half of that post means but f I see an Australian accountant I'll throw a metric wrench at his head.

Why are you insisting at putting American scientific students at a loss by having to learn a whole measurement system that isn't necessary

In what world are imperial units not necessary? I don't think you realize how much money is tied up in imperial units between engineering, manufacturing, and standard content.

edit:
And the amount of money car manufacturers throw away because England and their surrogates drive on the wrong side of the road. That would be a worthwhile endeavor.

Not sure how you got that from my post, but I guess I'll take that as a sign the Canadian education system isn't exactly tearing up the charts either.

And lol @ embarrassingly low. It's not number 1, but considering there are around 200 countries in the world, depending on your definition of country, the US is much closer to the top than the bottom.

Oh, and something I like to point out to guys like you is that the US outperforms Sweden in math, Norway & Sweden in science, and Denmark & Sweden in reading per the Programme for International Student Assessment. Apparently Scandinavian socialism is worse than good ol' American capitalism when it comes to producing smart kids :)

I'll deal. We take on metric and the rest of the world switch to English American as a primary language. Why have all this useless shit like Chinese and Dutch that people aren't going to learn?
