Should the lighter fighters be weighed more heavily all time?

OP point is that smaller weight classes have more competition so it is harder to be on top. 100% true.

This applies to other sports as well though, sadly. Basketball for example, there are literally millions of players that are more talented than NBA stars but they aren't able to hang because of being sized out.

1. Why do you think they are weighed more heavily? Are you factoring in who would beat who in a fight?

2. I see. I guess p4p can have many interpretations but I never seen any discussion on Sherdog on whether lower weight fighters should be ranked more highly p4p because of their level of competition. I’ve heard people say that the competition is higher in general at the lower weight classes but never seen anyone actually draw that into their argument as to why X lighter fighter should be ranked best because of this fact.

3. So you agree that there is more talent in the lighter divisions? It’s interesting that the longest reigning champ in the heavier divisions (Jones) comes from a bloodline of all star NFL
players and that there haven’t been many long reigns in the higher divisions. Is this a consequence of less talent and the right fighter coming along?
1.
I actually meant that the lighter weights are given (more? fair, maybe) consideration. I cannot factor that second question in easily... it instantly becomes a P4P opinion.

2.
The lower weights also have more classes, so that is another factor that evens these things out.

3.
Yes, particularly 'the right fighter coming along' and a whole lot of other factors too from my point of view: a lot of tape on the guys he fought, none on him at the beginning, the right coach also, plus some luck - some of which would include my suspicion that there were influencing factors that made decisions go his way. Notable too is 'the right fighter includes not only his skill, but his willingness to cheat in every way possible over and over again.

Anyways man, perhaps to a degree you are right that there is some level of unconscious bias. I can see that.

But there was a time when things were much, much worse - those tiny guys were viewed the way that female fighters are currently. That has changed, for the better... hopefully things continue in that direction.
