Hot Take Should LHW and HW just be combined?

Even worse. Some 260 guys can't make 225. Your idea will never happen. HW to be from 185. People also really underestimate the size and quality of the top 6-7 HWs. A lot of B level but the ranked guys are strong. The top ranked guys are unproportionaly stronger.

Noone is gonna do this. But hey you can make a fun discussion.

I'd rather they budget a couple milions to make HW great again.
for shits and giggles, mate.

that would be the point. the uber fatasses who can't make 225 would all be eliminated and the sport, the competition, the entertainment, the visibility, the product would be 10000% better for it.

it wouldn't be fair, of course it's never going to happen, but yes it would be a better product.

HW from 185 to 225, that's it. a 40 lb difference as opposed to a 60 lb difference where that is all made up in beer gut and inflammatory processed foods.

yes strength is real, but who cares when it's boring as fuck.

i wish theyd properly procure talent too, but those days are obviously gone.

they haven't even tried with HW, no signings, no names, no nothing, it doesn't even sound like their are prospects out there.

they tried with rico and failed, no GLORY potential is going to take a massive pay cut just to get held against a cage against a 265 lb fat ass strong guy.

He’s not a MW. This is how extreme MMA weight cutting has warped people’s perception.

He’s a 6'4" man with a near 80" reach who walks around lean at over 200 lbs. He’s the definition of a traditional combat sport heavyweight.

One reason the current HW division is so dog shit is that it’s mostly filled with the lardos who can’t even cut to 205.
In striking being a 225 HW works. In MMA the grappling makes it a big disatvantage. There are no 225 HWs in the UFC. They are slower tire faster less volume. But the small guys would tire even faster trying to grapple a 250 guy. Like the Russian ranked LHW Kyrolov right vs Sao Peleile (name?). Kyrlov got even more tired and slow than Sao.

The recent Glory HW GP had 2 LHWs in the final. 106 kg guy won it. Runner up was like 100 kg.

add cruiserweight division to the ufc instead
have you watched lately?

there's like 1-2 guys in LHW that can fight for Poatan's scraps.

and at HW there's 1-2 guys who are champion worthy.

there is no where near enough talent to warrant a whole other division.

they need to combine them if anything.

instantly better product.

Yes, I think both divisions should be run over by heavy farm equipment.

Invest or fold it. There's HW's out there. It's supposed to be a marquee division. Shameful how they let it lapse.

It's one thing to dilute the lighter weight classes with regional talent. At least they look good getting off the bus and don't gas after a round. The HW stable needs to be managed differently. The consequence is ranked fighters with flabby bodies sucking wind with their hands on their hips. Embarrassing.

They are more disciplined than you. You are severely underestimating professional heavyweight.

yes. but make move MW to 195. and everything above that is HW. the restructuring of weight classes needs to be around the middle weight classes like LW and WW.

On one hand sherdog hates weight-cutting, on the other hand, you want the HW´s to cut to 205lbs...the only division with almost no weight cut, you want those guys to cut to 205, or 225lbs as others mentioned as a possible replacement.

Check the UFC rankings, not everyone looks like Derrick Lewis.

combine LHW and HW, cap it off at 225.

huge out of shape portruding gut weight class never resonates

Most lhws are legitimately HW-sized guys who just cut water weight. The number of fighters who are over 200 lbs in cage shape is now so limited that it barely makes sense to maintain separate LHW and HW divisions.
I think pretty much every MW is 200+ lbs on fight night.

HW would be better if they invested more in it and stopped cutting ranked fighters.

I do agree that it would be interesting to see some of the LHWs at HW, perhaps that would happen if they lowered the weight limit.

No.
Maybe even a super heavyweight division should be created. people love the giants.

No.

Jiri considered MW.

Forcing someone up is not the way.

UFC invests in HW or it stays stale with B level athletes outside the rankings.

LHW aren't HWs. Some can move up. Others can't. They all prefer not to or they already would done it.

Basically this makes HW above 185. Pretty stupid. So HW is bad and therefore you kill 205.

This 'Ho finally bees making some sense, think we should remember this day !

<Moves>

Imagine if guys like Pereira and Jiri were fighting at heavyweight.

If anything, the sport would make more sense with a buffer class between 185 and 205, and then a single heavyweight division for anyone above 200 lbs.
If so, allow super heavy
