Should Jeremy Stephens even be called a knockout artist?

How about you use Jack Slacks narrative.

No, I made a post about this a few days ago. Stephens ain't no KO machine like Rogan makes you all believe with the UFC hype machine nonsense. Stephens is a decision machine, he always goes to decisions despite landing flush over and over. He knocked some guys out in about 1920. He is a sloppy meathead car park slugger.

its kinda like woodleys case where he wins a lot of decisions but has 3-4 hard KOs

He definitely has power, but his last knock out with his hands was Marcus Davis in 2010. He's had a few knock outs since then - all were with his feet.

Isn't it making him more of a KO artist ?

Hasn't won by a KO from punches this decade yet according to him is "the hardest hitting 145 pounder in the division".

We'll see what he is on Sunday...

Very surprised Doo is the favorite, I don't think people remember who Stephens is or that Choi got smacked around and took a year off to come back from his last fight.

leave him alone just enjoy the carnage

Stephens is often hyped as a brutal KO-artist, but I'm not feeling it. If only counting fights from his UFC-stint his record shows that he's about as likely to win by decision as he is by knockout, which is pretty darn average.

What are your thoughts, Sherdog?

Was thinking about this leading up to his fight with Choi. Stephens is not a KO artist by any means, I mean first and foremost in 26 UFC fights he has 4 wins by stoppage (2 from punches, 1 kick and 1 knee). Now Stephens is a power puncher and hits hard, but to be a KO artist you need more than that, precision, accuracy and timing is key and he doesnt have that. Stephens throws heavy but misses a lot and that's his biggest problem.

He has the power of a ko artist just not the skill. Same reason why in boxing some of the biggest punchers ever don't have great KO ratios.

Relative to his weight class, absolutely. Not too many guys in that class have power like him.

Kind of like phil baroni. Just a strong dude with a couple ok punches. Mike perry is more of a ko artist than either of them

The guy's punching power is way overrated, the last time he rocked and finished someone with his hands was in 2011 against Marcus Davis.
