Fair point but it really shouldn't have been. Chandler had no business fighting for the belt so soon. Makhachev deserves it more than Chandler did tbf.

Islam may have a 10 fight win streak, but has he even beaten a top 10 guy yet? To me, he has to beat somebody in the top 5 before he fights for the belt. I'm sure he will fight for the belt sometime soon though, just not yet.

Rankings are overrated and do not always reflect the alptitude of a fighter.

How can her earn by not fighting anyone within the top 5?

And please take into account the following: So what you are telling me is that if you beat 10-15 scrubs in great fashion, you don't have to beat any top 10?

Note: look, I know it is not his fault. Fighters got injured and all. But at the end of the day, you can't be so blind as to allow someone with no top 10 victories (other than last minute replacement) to leapfrog all other top 10 fighters!

Besides, if he is not the very next, that means he has time for one more fight!!!
Push the UFC to set it up instead of sitting back and waiting for his turn!

He's ranked #4 with a 10 fight win streak. Yes he may have not beat anyone in the top 5. But of course it's not his fault he didn't fight Beneil. I think he earned it more than Conor or anyone else in the top 5 as we speak, besides Gaethje who's already scheduled to fight for the title.

I just don't see any other person in the top 5, who earned it more at this time. Poirier and Chandler just got their title shots fairly recently and lost. I can see Islam have one more fight, but I don't think it's necessary at this point. He's done enough for a TS. I've seen people who've done less get a title shot.

That's just my opinion. If he ends up fighting one more time before a TS, that's understandable as well. But I believe he's earned it at this point.

You have to be completely out of the loop to not know Justin getting the TS next, it's already official and scheduled. So it goes without saying really.

I think they'll skip him in favour of Conor, who also shouldn't get the title shot, but will.

They'll give Makachev another fight in the meantime and if he wins that one they won't have anyone else left so he'll probably get it then.

He's already getting the next shot after Gaethje so your " he shouldn't and I don't think he will" really means nothing

I don't really care about belts, Gaethje vs Conor is just a fun match up. Ismak would strangle Justin even quicker than Khabib. That's no fun. Unless you're an Ismak fan, which I guess I'm kinda becoming, but I'm only entertained when he's fighting other grapplers, which is why - if Ollie stays champ - I'd love Islam/Charles next.

But Gaethje/Islam is a waste of time.

True, but I don't think Islam would have as much sympathy and mercy as Khabib seemed to have for Justin. Gaethje moved away from Khabib very impressively and those kicks were starting to add up, this could lead him to the light vs Ismak, but... I feel like we've been through this roller coaster so many times. "But he has a chance!"... nah, he'd get taken down and folded. Love Gaethje, but it's what it's.

He got walked through in his title shot. He's won once since then. Justin is real entertaining but I don't see why a fighter who has lost half of his 9 fights in the UFC should have two title shots.

Absolutely he should. He hasn't had to go through a gauntlet like other guys in the division. Those guys beat each other down the rankings while Islam has cake walked his way to being the next man up.
