Should I be weight training?

i started at 16. i am so glad i did. lifting heavy shit is a real confidence builder.

So where is this video? I was expecting to see a 500lb ATG squat video up by now to show off these naturally strong legs.

His legs probably wouldn't fit on the camera so he had to order a special wide lens for those behemoths.

why you mad tho?

definitely get the book "Starting Strength" and follow it to a T

Did my first proper gym session yesterday and was wondering why some people take the soft wrap thing off of the bar

If the bar hurts when you are squatting you either have it in the wrong spot or have really bony shoulders. Make sure it's not too high to the point where it's actually sitting on your neck. It should be on your traps or rear delts. Try playing around with the empty bar (or something light like 95 lb) to see if you can find a better spot.

As a beginner, Starting Strength is GREAT. Just don't screw up on the Power Cleans bro... so many of my friends tweaked something by having bad form (knees and shoulders usually). Careful, man. And don't forget to use progressive overload!

I do have pretty bony shoulders but I'll try some different positions and see

Yeah. Not to put too fine a point on it, but my woman is not exactly large, and she does not pad the bar before squatting. And she is in her 40's like me.

Anything between yourself and the bar decreases the contact between the bar and your back, which increases the chances of the bar rolling. A thick pad can artificially raise your center of gravity as well.

In addition to the advice you have already been given, pull your shoulder blades together, then grip the bar solidly. Pull your elbows down slightly and pull the bar hard into your traps. Imagine that you are trying to bend the bar across your upper back. This may suck to get used to at first, but having a heavy squat roll down your back because you did not hold the bar tightly sucks even more.
