Should I be weight training?

I am 16 years old, about 5 foot 6 and relatively skinny, I weigh about 130-135 pounds. I want to get much stronger for takedowns and punches etc as I am probably the weakest at my club. My question is at my age is it ok for me to lift heavy weights (deadlifts and squats and stuff like theat) as I have heard it is not a good thing to do at my age?

It was ok for you at the age of 12.
