Economy Should ENGLISH proficiency be a REQUIREMENT for migrants?

Having a supportive community that will help you get by is a good thing not a bad thing lol. They are not relegated to these communities either. They choose to stay in them because there is a support system. And as I explained earlier many in these communities have no issue starting businesses in English-speaking areas. And those that can't, start one within their communities which is a great thing because it makes them less reliant on big stores and super chains.

Lol I interact with heavily Hispanic communities regularly. I just dont cry about not being able to speak Spanish.

Pathetic race baiting over made up shit lol.

"National cohesion" does not require everyone to speak the same language. As stated many times already, there are countless businesses run by non English speakers that have English speaking clients and they do very well for themselves. And these communities are not socially isolated. These people get involved in local events like anyone else. They bring in their cultural and businesses to integrate into whats already there. Thats how it has been everywhere I've lived.

You're trying to project this false narrative onto others instead of actually taking in whats being said.
There's nothing to take in. The entire basis of your thoughts surrounding immigration policy is that it "doesn't effect you". It's essentially feel good platitudes that you're trying to breathe life into, and pass off as sound policy. It's stupid.

Immigration is supposed to be a positive, not neutral and certainly not a negative force in one's life. If you want a socially stratified society like we currently have, by all means continue walking down the plank like you currently are.

Also, how do you even interact with people you can't communicate with? Do you sign language or recognize you have no ability to connect on any deeper level so you just sorta end up giving each other some awkward smile because that's all you can really do?

Proficient? No. But should they learn the language? Yes. This would apply to any immigrant to any country imo.

I can tell which of y'all have never actually tried to interact with non English speakers lol. "How can you possibly form a meaningful connection?????"As if we don't have a computer in our pockets.

All the Spanish I know was taught to me in conversation with Spanish speaking folks with shit English or no English. They taught me some, I taught them English. Crazy how that works.

Easily.

I mean I can

Or you just have bilingual friends and use Google translate, you absolute goof.
So we should all become bilingual or use Google translate to accomodate newly arrived immigrants?

Is that a legitimate suggestion or are you just retarded?

Damn Bro, your reading comprehension is almost as trash as your common sense

You know what be a great idea? Inviting more people who can't communicate with you, just like me.

You're really making a great case for how you'd deal with it later on.

I've met people who can't speak a lick of English that are 100x easier to communicate with than you lol.

So I'll gladly take more of them and trade you off

How do you communicate with them? What's the procedure if they can't "speak a lick of English.."?

Here is the biggest difference between communicating with non English speakers and your average war room poster. And also the reason I'll gladly speak to a non English speaker over most of y'all.

A non English speaker won't understand what you're saying but will make a genuine effort to understand and try to find a middle ground to communicate.

Most of you dont understand, dont want to understand, and will spend your time making up random bullshit instead of actually reading lol.

By using the lump of gray matter between my ears that you appear to be missing.

I've had entire conversations by using a mix of gestures, Google translate, whatever scaps of the language I've picked up, pictures on my phone, etc. I had to teach math and biology to kids with little English. Diagrams and drawings went a long way.

If you put in the minimum amount of effort, most people will meet you half way and you can have a conversation

Yea man, the guy that decided not to learn English for the 50 years hes been here really made a genuine effort to understand you.

Can't say I agree it has 0 effect. Not being able to speak to each other is an obvious impediment to a close knit community and/or society.
I've lived in heavily diverse communities with people who speak little to no English and most people get on just fine. If you really want to communicate, you'll find more creative means to do so.

And if you interact with people in this manner enough, your gonna end up teaching each other your respective languages anyway.

I always presumed that, if I moved to another country, it would be seen as the height of disrespect if I didn't become conversationally proficient in the language by the time I moved there.
