Should anyone be flagged by the NSA for his internet history?

Essentially it's the same material. Just sort of a grassroots updated "edition" of that original work- so to speak. Jolly Rogers was just sort of the first digital incarnation of the ACB which updated and expanded on some of the developed science/methods of the 1971 original edition of the ACB, and in particular, as it was my understanding, held a greater focus on bomb-making and other improvised, homemade weapons whose utility was the most effective means of mass murder/destruction to a layman without access to more dangerous raw materials.

Gotcha.

Im not clicking on that link though. Don't want to be flagged by the NSA.

Yep, this big brother stuff has been in the works for a very long time and is global.

They are not there to protect you, they are there to control you and that has been the plan the entire time.

Eventually everyone will get used to it, and it will become normal. Then nobody will remember a time when there was such thing as privacy. These things happen over 10, 20, 50 year plans so the vast majority of people don't even notice where it's going.

I remember a time when everyone was paranoid of big brother (80s). Any kind of surveilance was met with extreme opposition from the people. Now you look around and see cameras on every street corner. This was unheard of back then. Now no one seems to care. They implement this shit by degrees...like a frog in a pot of water. You turn up the temp gradually, and before he can react, he is already cooked.

All of these measures are done in the name of safety. Its BS. But everyone is scared

Certainly, and you can see the motive to keep people in a constant state of fear. It's one of the oldest governing tricks in the book to bring about changes.

'We need to do this to keep you safe, citizen.'

The war on terrorism is a great example, where if you really break it down the threat of being killed by a terrorist is miniscule. Yet.. People have allowed massive increases in big brother apparatus on all levels.

That stuff doesn't go away. It only ever goes in one direction.

Then people who are raised in such an environment have no baseline to compare it to so it is completely normal. They will then see changes but to them, it won't seem so drastic because they are comparing it to a time when they were already watched. A multi generational boiling frog. People also have short memories.

I'm not too concerned about the monitoring users going to potentially dangerous websites (ex. Jolly Roger's Cookbook...remember that, anyone?) because they're only really going to "flag" users who develop a habitual history and perhaps broadcast potentially threatening views on forums like one, but they've been monitoring phone calls, emails, texts, and other private communications of American citizens.

That's where I draw the line. Unacceptable. Unconstitutional. Criminal.

This. If you're googling how to make a pressure cooker bomb and ambush tactics on stormfront, I'm not concerned if the government is watching you. But my cell phone and emails? Pfft.

Nope. I should be able to visit any website out of curiousity without being judged. I fully understand why child pornography is flagged. I am referring to any site other than that.

How about they get a warrant to spy on us, like the founding father's intended?

Fucking criminals.

What's good for the goose, is good for the gander.

The resistance will not be televised.

Child porn and any terrorist sponsoring sites of course.

It's a slippery slope.

They can change the definition of a terrorist group and they already do. Pretty sure militias are considered a terrorist organization, as well as Oathkeepers and the same way the IRS targeted people who showed extreme interest in the US constitution.

Part of what the NSA does is basically compile a profile on you and run data analytics to establish behavior.

They can profile activity via internet (what information are you looking at) and phone (who are you contacting and when) and build this profile.

I'm sure it's quite sophisticated.. Then they can predict what you are going to do and then their software can flag profiles that they think are going to be a problem. Then if you are flagged, they may also flag your friends or those people you are in contact with.

Or the fact that they do provide a critical service to our security. I loathe the NSA's activities as much as anyone, but dissolving them would be a histrionic overreaction. They require reform to be in accordance with constitutional law, and perhaps more transparency where they are overseen by a panel of elected officials consisting of both parties (and independents).

Actually, I suspect that the panel of elected officials might be an unconstitutional structure for an executive agency under the appointments clause. That's a little counter intuitive, though, so I'm going to check with an expert on that.

I never thought about that. Excellent point.

Serious? What if they start monitoring for "political dissent"? Who decides what to monitor for? This government is so quick to label people "terrorists" I can't believe someone in a free country would be ok with this. Can you imagine a tool like this in the hands of a John McCain? This man could have been president. He would have no qualms whatsoever using the powers of the NSA for his own ends. He'd have assassinated Snowden long ago and anyone else who he feels could embarrass him personally.

You have to think of the future. Even if you trust Obama (for whatever reason) not to abuse his power; would you trust the same power in the hands of some crazed neocon? There are loads of these guys still in government and all it will take is for the powers-that-be to back them and you'll have your presidential candidate whether you like it or not.

It's scary how fast people are willing to give up their privacy these day for the illusion of safety.

I'm cool with it, they protect me from terrorists.

I used to be afraid to leave the house due to terrorism but now I feel as safe as ever.

Thanks NSA!

All my friends are dead because of terrorists

those people shouldnt be flagged, people that should be flagged are the creeps on the deep web.

they are infringing on everyone's liberty, breaking federal laws, and in the process making every US citizen paranoid and antagonizing our international allies, all for my own good. So it's gotta be worth it.

I believe this data is recorded not to stop attacks, but to persecute people who they feel were involved in attacks.

If they looked through certain web histories I am sure no small amount of "Terrorists hell bent on destroying America" would turn out to be 14 kids.
