For some odd reason, its been the "cool thing" on sherdog to hate on Shogun lately, or to discredit his many all-time-legendary accomplishments
Yeah..we know, Shogun at the very tail end of his career lost badly to Sonnen and OSP, two subpar fighters who each have lost multiple times - both having no better than a 60% wins to loss ratio - both of whom wouldnt have been fit to sniff Shogun's jock strap just a couple years ago
Do boxing fans ever shit on Ali for losing badly to Holmes at the end of his career? So why do some always hold those losses (and the loss to Jones while injuried) against Shogun and act like Shogun's career is defined by those losses?
This is the thread to counter that insane Shogun hate.
Not that long ago, Shogun also put up a very hard competitive fight against Gustafsson, whos the best LHW in many peoples eyes
That fight was DEAD EVEN heading into round 3.
Peep this for reference,
Shogun landed MORE significant punches against Gus IN 3 rounds, than Jones managed to land against Gus IN 5 ROUNDS lol. Shogun also took Gus down the first time he tried (cough Jones cough)
Shogun did a lot better vs Gus than people want to give him credit for.
Shogun vs Gus was a tremendous back and fourth war. Gus only started to really pull away durring the last 3 minutes of the fight. Major PROPS to Gus too. Gus fought a prepared, in-form Shogun and pulled away -taking it and giving it. Was a great win for Gus. Both looked good.
Say what you want about Shogun. All though hes inconsistent, if Shogun is well-prepared and hungry, Shogun on any given night can still hang with the very best at LHW, as he proved against Gustafsson. Gustafsson IS the very best at LHW according to just about everyone.
WAR Shogun until the end of time. Legends never die
