For some odd reason, its been the "cool thing" on sherdog to hate on Shogun lately, or to discredit his many all-time-legendary accomplishments

Yeah..we know, Shogun at the very tail end of his career lost badly to Sonnen and OSP, two subpar fighters who each have lost multiple times - both having no better than a 60% wins to loss ratio - both of whom wouldnt have been fit to sniff Shogun's jock strap just a couple years ago

Do boxing fans ever shit on Ali for losing badly to Holmes at the end of his career? So why do some always hold those losses (and the loss to Jones while injuried) against Shogun and act like Shogun's career is defined by those losses?

This is the thread to counter that insane Shogun hate.

Not that long ago, Shogun also put up a very hard competitive fight against Gustafsson, whos the best LHW in many peoples eyes

That fight was DEAD EVEN heading into round 3.

    Peep this for reference,

Shogun landed MORE significant punches against Gus IN 3 rounds, than Jones managed to land against Gus IN 5 ROUNDS lol. Shogun also took Gus down the first time he tried (cough Jones cough)

Shogun did a lot better vs Gus than people want to give him credit for.

Shogun vs Gus was a tremendous back and fourth war. Gus only started to really pull away durring the last 3 minutes of the fight. Major PROPS to Gus too. Gus fought a prepared, in-form Shogun and pulled away -taking it and giving it. Was a great win for Gus. Both looked good.

Say what you want about Shogun. All though hes inconsistent, if Shogun is well-prepared and hungry, Shogun on any given night can still hang with the very best at LHW, as he proved against Gustafsson. Gustafsson IS the very best at LHW according to just about everyone.

WAR Shogun until the end of time. Legends never die

SHogun vs Gus was a nice fight, and a good performance from both guys.

But it also showed us that Shogun would struggle with this newer lightheavyweights,
Gus appeared to be the stronger man in the clinch, and also he was a little bit fresher in the 3rd round.

War Shogun, plz go to the 185 division.

So 3 gifs, each basically containing a single punch, all of which Gus seems to eat without much issue.

You'll have to do a bit better than that I'm afraid.

I'm not saying you're right or wrong, but your gifs here aren't very convincing.

    False.

False. The Gustaffson fight was over two years ago and he has declined further since then.

False. "Just about everyone" = Jones haters, ie. about half of Sherdog. And even idiots who actually think Gustaffson should have won the fight know that Jones' overall resume is much better, so either way, the "very best at LHW" is still Jones.

Overall rating: FAIL/10. You took what could have been a good thread and turned it into a pile of shit that deserves to be wastelanded, if not deleted.

Shogun is now very underrated in general. To tell the truth, he was looking good in the Hendo fight until he got caught and for what we know, he might have been just caught during the OSP fight. Dude is still a beast I think.

Neither Sonnen or OSP are "sub par"

Sonnen was 29-14 against very good competition.

Shogun is 22-10. Do you see him him going 7-4 if he makes it 11 more fights?

And don't compare Shogun to Ali. Jeezus.

Cannot believe the chin on Gus in that second gif

Literally ran right into a clean power overhand right from shogun right on the chin and acted as if nothing happened

Gus beat him up, i was surprised.

Not an outclassing, but a convincing win for Gus.

It's not a good performance if all you did was manage to land a couple punches in between gettin' sauced.
Gus does not have a chin. He has a VIKINGBEARD.

"Rumble is going to KO Gus", said the hype train conductors, amidst gales of laughter from those who realized that such a thing is simply not possible.

You're the kind of poster that brings out the haters. Shogun has had a great career but it's pretty obvious his time as a top fighter is over.
You're posting 3gif's of him against a top contender to somehow show that he's still great or relevant.

It's no different than Fedor fans who feel the need to constantly throw in a he'd get crushed by Prime Fedor.

Anyone that's been around long enough to know isn't shitting on Shogun. Just let it go you're not changing a haters opinion you just add fuel to the fire.

Theres TWO more gifs. For some reason its not showing, but I posted the link besides them

    Here they are
    http://minus.com/lbjtRAqyxWcViu

    http://minus.com/lSkg9WVvt6xf7

Also, those gifs arent EVEN remotely indictive of all of Shogun's offense. Just check stats. Shogun landed a lot more

BUT the gifs there SHOW Shogun LANDED CLEAN hard beatiful counters, and others show Shogun closing distance beautifully with his cheat punch and landing

Gus is a MONSTER. He destroyed Jones in manyes eyes. Shogun vs Gus PROVED that IF Shogun IS PREPARED and hungry he CAN STILL compete with the very best

Fight was very close until Gus ran away with it in the 3rd.

But Shogun landed very good punches, got a takedown, had a deep heel hook and wasn't getting outclassed at all until the final round.

5 rounds you cant help but think Shogun would slow down dramatically.

Comparing Shogun to Ali and other such shenanigans are the reason why he has these haters.

He also got rocked and dropped in the first. They both scored 2 knockdowns each in the fight. Henderson's final one was the greatest of the 4.
