Television Shogun

That was Sho' Nuff, not Shogun. Come on, man.

Sho'nuff, Shogun of Harlem.

Unless Mandela effect is working?

Nope, at 3 mins as he leaves he calls himself Shogun of Harlem.

Calls himself Shogun twice there.

And there too.

Sho'nuff , Shogun of Harlem.

Why can't we have anything with vibrant color anymore?

I am so, so tired of these filters they use on literally everything now. It is impossible to unsee.

Big shoes to fill and hard to imagine anyone else than Chamberlain in the role but I'm in.

<{jackyeah}>

Yeah Chamberlain was great in the original - I remember watching it on TV as a kid and it's amazing the original broadcast didn't even have subtitles. 90% of the dialogue was in Japanese with only occasional English dialogue between Blackthorne, a translator or one of the few other Europeans in the cast. Even still, it was the 2nd most watched U.S. TV show ever (after Roots) with 32.9% of American households watching at least part of it. This was 1980 before VCRs were common and everyone was jumping at the chance to watch something new and different on TV.

Looks pretty good to me,

Really happy to see Cosmo Jarvis's rise, followed him for years and went to see him perform live a long time ago after buying one of his albums on CD, before his set I was literally stood right next to him which kinda blew my mind, always knew he has underrated potential to become a huge star but to actually witness him getting there is really cool.

Watch the original Shogun with Richard Chamberlain. Its still one of the best made movies ever about japanese culture and they went into a level of detail and authenticity that is breathtaking. The good old times without agenda film making.

I might be a cynic but I expect this movie infused with modern identity politics and far less dedication and respect to the book. The original cast with Chamberlain, Toshiro Mifune , Yoko Shimada and Damien THomas was simply perfect.

You can buy it on blu ray in good quality.

The trailer has few well made scenes and quite some absolute shitty ones. No thanks,

I just re-watched the original Shogun you describe on youtube, and it still holds up as one of my favorite movies of all time. There was zero need for a re-make because the original was excellent.

Great another vapid remake. Just go watch the original or watch the film Twilight Samurai if you're into the main actor here.

No need for a remake but looks decent.

Pet peeve of mine, but this isn't a remake. The 1980 miniseries is not the "original".

This is another adaptation of the same source material.

Calling it a remake is a disservice to the book, which is quite excellent.

I have also recently rewatched on YT but it's imo well worth the Blu ray as they really upped the quality. Will be my next order.
Interview with Chamberlain about Shogun

Self-named titles don't hold any weight at all.

I was too young for the OG series. Never read the book but I've read Gai-jin years ago so I know this is going to be good. Production seems to be on point and Hiroyuki Sanada is a tremendous addition to this series.

Sanada was a Gay Ninja before it was cool!

The book was magnificent.
Compelling & seamlessly exudes the juxtaposition of the cultural world views/values of honor & pageantry of feudal Japan & vs raw emotion/hidden personal motivations-machinations.
Perpetual Chess.
Good times.

The mini series with Chamberlain was complete ass.
Similar to Memoirs of Geisha with Michele Yeoh &Zhang Ziyi.
Beautiful read, turrible movie.

This looks like it has promise.
I like Sanada & seems like great choice as Toranaga.

Sanada was good in "Sunshine". Will give it a watch. Thanks.

DO NOT waste your time watching Shogun on FX. Watch it on HULU instead. The ho Kiku (uncredited), whose face is better than the main actress, has very decent naked boobs that FX covered with CGI poor lighting. I'm gonna need to rewatch both episodes on HULU.

There's another actress who showed boobs and buns in something else. She's the one who looks evil.
