The next Battlefield from DICE is entering early-stage playtest soon. 2026 for landing has been floated by insiders.

Grapevine is with recent EA stock plummet, the publisher has no fewer than four studios working on the follow-up to 2042 in hopes of a turnaround of recent failures and something of equal footing to Warzone.

Concerns with 2026 launch are stiff competition from GTA6 and either this Christmas’ BLOPS2 or Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare IV + Warzone 3 mega-project also slated for 2026.

Wish em the best, COD desperately needs competition at this point. I'm curious if they'll be able to balance destructibility better this time around.

I hope they do it right. I always preferred BF over any MP franchise, up until BF1. BF2 is still the goat to me, but BF4 remastered some classic maps, namely Dragon Valley, which is my all time fav map.

Halo CE/2/3 and COD WAW are close seconds.

Word is production was restarted from the beginning last year, which already had been worked on for two years.

This game is in a very expensive development hell.

Remember the Nemesis System that WB copyrighted and was supposed to be in this game? Nevermind, its now a fairly standard adventure game.

What are her actual powers? I don't think I've ever thought playing her would be cool. Rope and whip physics are also famously difficult to get right, making her lasso a developmental area of attention, I'm sure.

A better protag would be Jean Grey, IMO. You could easily explain narratively how player comes back after dying in-game by her phoenix resurrection abilities. Jean also has a couple abilities that would make for awesome game visuals.

Yea but WB has the DC rights Jean would be Marvel. Green Lantern is an easy choice imo. All the things he can do with his ring. The gameplay could get really creative with the right team.

Do you remember a 2008 game from Midway called Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe? My brothers and I played it devotedly with the game becoming a competitive point among us.

The youngest of my brothers was vicious with Green Lantern, lol. No-one could put him down and take the crown from him for the longest time. Char's ring abilities were cool AF.

Well, Rebellion launched Sniper Elite: Resistance to pretty much crickets a week and change ago.

Big fan of the series as you guys may know but I didn’t like Resistance’s predecessor (SE5), so am watching from the sidelines for now. It feels like they did virtually no marketing for this instalment.

A friend of mine who’s platted previous games (they’re notoriously hard to 100 with no-save permadeath so he’s dedicated) said the 80€ price tag is steep for how little you get.

Rebellion has already implemented a season pass as well that costs 40€ atop that – and the season pass model doesn’t work with these games, IMO; more, they’ve roadmapped a DLC to expand base game (probably a few story missions with corresponding maps) that’s pay-for.

Not feeling the love right now, TBH.

I remember the game but never played it. Green lantern always seemed like one of the better DC heroes but they never seem to be able to do anything with him.

Valve implements new rules re: advertising, banning all Steam games that force players to watch in-game advertisements.

The new rules from Valve - available online and first reported by Gaming on Linux - confirm that whilst cross-promotion and product placement are permitted, games that force players to watch or engage with advertising in order to play are not.

Nor should developers use advertising as a "way to provide value to players, such as giving players a reward for watching or engaging with advertising in their game".

"Developers should not utilise paid advertising as a business model in their game, such as requiring players to watch or otherwise engage with advertising in order to play, or gating gameplay behind advertising," the rules explain.

"If your game's business model relies on advertising on other platforms, you will need to remove those elements before shipping on Steam. Some options you could consider include switching to a single purchase 'paid app', or making your game free to play with optional upgrades sold via Microtransactions or Downloadable Content (DLC)."

Finland's Remedy in official financial statement confirms Alan Wake II sales exceeded 2M units and has begun earning royalties.

On Wake property:

In the second half of 2024 Remedy released the second expansion of Alan Wake 2, The Lake House, alongside the release of the physical retail Deluxe Edition of the game. The physical Collector’s Edition was shipped to players in December by Limited Run Games. In November, with the launch of the PlayStation 5 Pro, Remedy released a Pro-specific update for Alan Wake 2 and multiple updates to improve the quality of the title across all platforms. These actions together support Alan Wake 2’s long-term sales.

More, Control 2 enters full production this month! Woo. @Lovestorm

Bonus, Max Payne 1 + 2 remakes in collab with R* confirmed already mid-production.

Damn. That doesn’t bode well for Crysis 4 seeing the light of day.

While i agree with this game dev he relayed it harshly. Gaming influencers today are gaming publications on steroids. Not only giving favorable opinions for future release access, but also receiving direct payments.

I didn't even think of something like this but he's 100% right and maybe he is being harsh but I get it. It's a project he's worked years on and he doesn't want to see it get attacked by some overpaid contactor.

This gives me bareknuckle vibes, the ridiculous statement that's going to have to be immediately walked back.

Game developers have even gotten around the sponsored tag by enabling in-game drops for hand selected streamers and or giving them exclusive co-streaming/rebroadcasting rights.
