In a bizarre update to the long The Day Before saga, studio Fntastic has announced its closure just days after the game's launch in early access last week.

"Today, we announce the closure of Fntastic studio," the company said in a statement on its X/Twitter account. "Unfortunately, The Day Before has failed financially, and we lack the funds to continue. All income received is being used to pay off debts to our partners."

Fntastic adds that the future of The Day Before and Propnight is "unknown, but the servers will remain operational."

The statement also makes a point to note that "we didn't take any money from the public during the development of The Day Before; there were no pre-orders or crowdfunding campaigns. We worked tirelessly for five years, pouring our blood, sweat, and tears into the game."

Still, the closure comes after fans still did spend money on it, with it costing $39 in early access. Some players were already asking for refunds, however, even before today's closure news. The long-controversial game's early access launch was a rocky one to say the least, with the Steam page being flooded with negative reviews.

Not only was The Day Before plagued by bugs and server issues, but many complained that it wasn't even what was initially advertised. While labeled as an open-world MMO, many were quick to point out that it's actually an extraction shooter. The backlash was so bad that its player count dropped almost 90% in four days, and it's already entered Steam's 10 worst-reviews games of all time.

The game's now been made unavailable to purchase on Steam too.

Supposedly the game was a big UE Asset flip with stuff that was available for either free or part of a $30 Humble Bundle recently, with no actual input put it. Just literally all the UE assets

Edit - Ok it gets better looks like they've changed their name back to the name they had before the game

E3 is now officially dead

The Electronic Entertainment Expo, which was once the gaming industry's biggest convention and media platform, is officially dead.
"After more than two decades of hosting an event that has served as a central showcase for the U.S. and global video game industry," the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has decided to bring E3 to a close, said Stanley Pierre-Louis, president and CEO of the nonprofit trade association that represents the games industry's interests in the United States.

Didn't know this was happening. Wouldn't mind replaying the game. My save got ruined by a mainline quest being bugged.

China sets into law online gaming laws today and Tencent value drops by 54B USD. Analysts predict this will result in new monetisation models to comply with the new laws while still exploiting playersmaximising profits.

Below are the key guidelines and the funny thing is they all sound good for gamers within China and without:

Online games must set spending limits
Online games must ban daily login rewards
Players who stream their games must not be able to receive large tips
Probability-based luck draws must not be offered

Online game approvals must be processed by regulators within 60 days of publishing

Paywalled read I found here. (External)

In a surprising move, China has introduced stringent measures targeting online gaming, erasing approximately $54 billion in Tencent Holdings Ltd.’s value. The draft rules, disclosed by Beijing’s gaming regulator, aim to curtail spending and content, prohibiting practices like rewarding frequent log-ins and player duels. This unexpected crackdown suggests renewed scrutiny of the world’s largest mobile gaming sector. Amid concerns of gaming addiction and societal issues, these regulations may force companies to revamp monetisation models, impacting China’s booming gaming market projected to grow 14% to ¥302.9 billion ($42.4 billion) in 2023.

Wide-scale data breach thwarted at Ubisoft this week. Details not known on what attacker successfully extracted but target payload was denied, it's reported. Rainbow Six Siege data were amongst attacker's targets. Entry method for breach on Ubi systems not known at time of writing:

December 20th an unknown Threat Actor compromised Ubisoft. The individual had access for roughly 48 hours until administration realized something was off and access was revoked.

They aimed to exfiltrate roughly 900gb of data but lost access.

GTA5 's source code has been publically leaked, pretty sure this is version that was taken when the GTA6 hack / leak happened and a snippet of it was uploaded to GitHub then deleted
