Nice, I'm really pumped about that one match-up!
Kinda sad that Page is already 37, seems to be already be on the way out, and it's only now that we're getting him in the UFC against top guys...
Gee, I really hope that this one delivers, because on paper, MVP's fight against Paul "Semtex" Daley at Bellator 216 was dynamite, and we know how it turned out
The crowd was already booing at the end of round 1, and the pair didn't really give them a reason to stop during that dull 5-rounds affair that could have gone either way (Page won rounds 1&4, Daley won rounds 2&3, and the 5th was a toss-up)
Okay, imma stop trying to jinx this one ><
To slightly change topics, anyone else has watched Page's grappling match against Carlos Condit at Polaris 30 a couple weeks back?
It was a weird idea to put aging 2 strikers (plus, Condit has been officially retired since 2021, and only competed at Polaris once back in 2022 when he got leck-locked by the very talented Welsh grappler Ashley Williams) in a submission grappling bout, would be like having Demian Maia & Roger Gracie ducking it out at BKFC or Karate Combat
(which reminds me, the Karate Combat event headlined by the young phenom Komsan "Yodwicha" Tantakhob against random Iranian dude who is a last minute replacement for the original rando that Yodwicha Bamchamek was supposed to style on, is happening RIGHT NOW...
there should be some good highlights in there ^^ there's some really good names on that card, from veteran Thai Lerdsila Chumpairtour to promising French Farang Adam "Noi" Larfi, it should be fun... also a bunch of people I've never heard about, so it's a strange mix
Right now we're about to start the bout between UFC veteran from Mongolia, Batgerel "Storm" Danaa & Freddy Castro Gonzales from Sweden
Karate Combat rant over!
Still, Condit has a lot of wins via submission, and his 10th Planet Purple belt ain't for show, so I expected him to win, but I guess I didn't realize how much bigger & stronger MVP was until they were facing off...
But it was a very close bout at Polaris 30, with Condit on the offensive for most of the bout, trying all kinds of submissions while Page mostly defended, and ended up winning a kinda-controversial decision
Still, MVP looked better on the ground than he did against Ian Machado, and since that fight was so damn close (the kind that I would score a draw if I could), his improvements could have made the difference back then.
I still hope that the Shara Bullet fight stays on the feet, I hope it doesn't turn into a mud wrestling bout like the Semtex one
MVP's career has been frustrating to follow, but this bout is the kind of stuff I've been hoping for all this time so I won't complain.
I think Izzy and MVP would be 25 minutes of them both circling, throwing jabs and weak leg kicks, point-fighting patty-cake.
I do love the Shara/MVP match up though. MVP's not scared to take a tough fight, and Shara's just here to bang, so it's a fan-friendly fight. I think MVP wins this one pretty easily though. Petrosyan was catching Shara on the blind side, and MVP's a faster and far more precise striker. Looking forward to this one, I doubt it sees the final bell.
You know when 2 incredibly skilled grapplers get in a fight and respect each others skills so much that they decide to have a really bad kickboxing match , like Aoki vs Shaolin
Watch these 2 guys have a really shitty grappling match just to piss everyone off
Rooting for Shara, never liked MVP's showboating, it's always gonna bug me. Shouldn't be just a fight of MVP taunting, and the opponent scared to get aggressive, at least. I wanna see him take Page's head off!
Could be a really awkward fight where both guys don't want to engage ala Thompson vs Till or Silva vs Diaz. That said, I think Page is the cleaner striker at range, as fast probably and has the length advantage but...Page can't mix it up or throw in close very well at all, Shara has better hands in close for sure. It's an interesting fight, won't tell us a ton about either guys future but it's fun. If Shara wins this put him in there vs someone like Borralho or Strickland, fuck maybe even Bo Nickal some ginger on ginger crime, call it a gingersnap.
