I’d like to see him fight Izzy but agree with OP that it’s not likely to happen. Disagree with OP that it’s a shit call out. We are talking about it after all….

I think Barriault fights this weekend in Edmonton. Powerbar can be a get or get got type of fighter and probably the perfect guy if you want another addition to the highlight reel for the Pirate.

We talked about Buckley too, and we scorned him for it. Wasting a callout on someone that “gets people talking” isn’t really a smart promotional strategy. You know what’s better than negative press? Positive press where you stick the landing and give the appearance of calling your own shot.

Right on cue. It’s as if I kicked your dog or something. You come across as a jilted school girl when someone is critical of a Dagestani fighter.

To your first point, why the fuck would Izzy care about Shara? What number will be next to his name come Monday? Be realisitc man. At least Buckley is ranked. Izzy, even after coming off two losses, it still a high profile fighter, former dominant champ, and a PPV draw that can call his shot.

Shara’s callout was the opposite of smart. It was unrealistic to all but most fervent of the bathtub brigade.

It might be entertaining. Or it might be two guys being tentative and Izzy just using his experience to coast to a decision. Or Shara ain’t ready. Izzy is a huge step up from Petrosyan, and that’s understating it.

And I’m hating on the callout, not Shara as a person, although I do detest him.

Cos people are talkin about it. Then its on tap. Conor shouldnt have cared about Nate when he called him out, but then his opponent got injured, and all of a audden it was perfect.

It's also a fun striking fight that people want to see. It probably wont be next but it could happen next year. They like a guy who fights as often as he does and they could hype the shit out of a fight like that if Shara can get another highlight KO like the one he got last night.

Izzy was watching that fight, cos he covers his reactions on his YT channel. So you will see Izzy react to being called out live.

It's smart. Izzy didnt ridicule him either. Cos he knows there is potential for money at some point.

I can see the appeal in this from a UFC POV. Shara isn't gonna grapple Izzy, it'll be a firefight that could be FOTY. Someone like Borralho will definitely grapple with Izzy, they probably don't want that.

Why was it a good callout if there’s no way in hell Izzy would fight that far down in the rankings?

Izzy is 35 years old, lost his last two fights and is 2-3 in his last 5. He is not in a position to be playing that game anymore. If the UFC (and their Muslim overlords) want that fight, theres a chance it happens. Worth a shot for Shara no? and if it doesnt happen, Shara can walk around saying Izzy didnt want to fight him, so he has nothing to lose.

It just sets the groundwork for a future fight. Shara wants to fight on the China card so he'll fight whoever is available for that. Then maybe we can aim for a main event on the Saudi FN and go from there.
