Seriously, who's going to end up as the 155 champion?

Healthy Conor (mentally included) is best fighter in division and only man who can defeat khabib (oliveira maybe, dark horse), if they rematch. Nobody made it look easier than him when he was in a stable place (lw). Alvarez looked like fringe top 15,20 fighter against Conor. His only real stain is Khabib defeat and I believe he can win that rematch.
All that means is that I believe that he is next champ.

P.S. He avenged Nate loss, it was only matter of preparation so yeah...

Khabib is one of my favourite fighters ever. However his retirement is good news. This is because lightweights have nothing on him and he's fought everyone i wanted to see him fight. I don't care about khabib tony anymore. Firstly, in my humnle opinion, i don't see conor becoming champ. He's untested and the others are equally as good or better than him. Also the others probably hit just as hard as him, so i don't think he stands out as much. A few bullet points.
  • Charles and gaethje are the only ones who haven't been matched up. You guys think they're going to be matched up? If so who wins? Justin has bad bjj, but can oliveira take and hold him down? Can he out strike him?
  • Can rda make one last run and win the belt?
  • Can any of these guys be a dominant champ or is the belt going to be passed around?
Olivera fight brings a new dynamic to his challenges. Always wanted to see him fight someone with Olivera's grappling abilities, someone who is very offensive with their elite level bjj. Dustin caught him in a guillotine that was very close, Khabib was able to change the angle at the very end but it was very tight and Khabib was in danger in that fight.

Gaethje showed you can damage his legs with with enough leg kicks. Khabib would've been very limited with his movement and takedown offense if he didn't do a reactive takedown off that leg kick that ended up transitioning into the mounted triangle. His leg was very compromised, another striker with good take down defense, scrambling, and bjj defense would use a similar strategy in the future. Attack the legs early, longer the fight goes the more compromised the leg will be and the lack of movement and not being able to put weight on the leg or bend it for a takedown attempt will benefit the striker. Khabib doesn't switch stances so switching stances wouldn't be an option once one of the legs are damaged.

Khabib would likely intentionally feed him a limb or something to gas him. I just don't see him beating khabib. You know who i think could've beaten khabib? Islam. They trained together. Khabib is probably better but they train together, he's younger etc.

If you don't think that fight is close then go watch it again. Conor won and that's fine, he mixed in some good leg kicks and takedowns, but he got outboxed for sure, and was getting tagged pretty often by Nate Diaz.. Why can't a Conor fan break down a fight without an excuse? Diaz and Conor are both natural lightweights. Diaz is an okay fighter, and Conor was fighting for his life both times against him..

What do you mean by outboxed? Are you using boxing criteria for that? If so, are you giving McGregor a 10-8 for the first round for knocking DIaz down and a 10-7 the second round for 2 knockdowns? How did Diaz beat him then even if you gave him the next 3 rounds 10-9?

Very strange to say he got outboxed in the first place when it was an MMA fight but I'd like to see your mental gymnastics to explain how he outboxed him after those first 2 rounds.

Do Bronx will be champ imo ...but likely not next .....I like conors chances
People making the same mistake they did after Gaethje beat Tony. Tony made Oliveira look better than he is imo, just like he did with Gaethje.

Gaethje or Poirier.

My view is that they will probably meet in the Octagon again in 2021.
- Don't know who wins that re-match. But it'll be a slugfest for the ages.

khabib hasnt relinquished the belt for a reason--the writing is on the wall fools. khabib will fight again when it is calling him. as the cream rises to the top in this division so will khabibs interest.. be patient

I mean he was the better boxer in both fights! No boxing scoring system because that's stupid. He controlled the fight at punching range. Yeah Conor gots more power and a better striker, and mixed it up well in the 2nd fight.. No leg kicks, no takedowns, then Conor gets boxed up again by Nate.. Why would you go for takedowns on a guy, when you're the better boxer, and consider yourself a striker? Easy you don't.. Beating Nate Diaz isn't a big deal at all, and Conor had the time of his life trying to get Nate outta there... outalanded Conor in punches too

I don't think intentionally baiting a limb to Olivera would be a smart move. Olivera's offensive bjj is on another level than most at the division, you can bait on other grapplers to set up something else but that wouldn't be the best move to do with Olivera. Olivera chains submissions together and probably has a link of moves he does with certain submission attempts. Similar to what Khabib did to Gaethje. Playing that submission chess game with Olivera is very risky.

A high level submission game is like high level striking, they throw multiple submissions to set up their real submission attempt, just like strikers throw multiple punches but are really trying to connect with their 4th or 5th punch. They know the first few punches will be blocked, parried, slipped, and countered.

I'm saying this as a Conor "hater", the 155 champ will be Conor because Dana wants it that way. It's all about the $$. Who are the contenders right now? Oliveira, Poirier, Gaethje, Chandler, and maaaaaybe Hooker. He will be matched up favorably, and the tough fights will be avoided on route to the belt. Conor most likely beats Poirier. Gaethje blocks shots with his face and gets wobbled in every fight, so Conor wins that one as well. Hooker is a good striker, although not as good as Conor, so he takes that one too. The only tough fights for him are Oliveira, and Chandler, and I GUARANTEE you that they avoid those match ups. Even Oliveira is extremely winnable for Conor.

As a little bonus, if the Poirier fight (or any of his hand picked striking match ups) are even remotely close, the judges will score it in Conor's favour as well.

Rough match-up for either guy. Gaethje improved. Poirier already beat him.

Fair enough.

Suppose Dana didn't want it that way? Who, other than Khabib, can beat Conor at 155?
Gaethje.
Hooker.
Lee will strangle him. Lee takes everyone he faces to the ground. It favors him stylistically.
Oliveira maybe, not sure.
Poirier 50/50
RDA as well.
Well he probably can't knovk felder out. Felder doesn't gas either You know what means.
Conor blew all his credibility when he ducked thr division and proved me exactly right when he faced khabib. Had he stayed and defended and tested himself against the division's finest, after beating eddie, I'd have been okay with it.

So the 2 top ranked guys in the division are good matchups for him, oliveira is winnable, so they will protect him from the guy who hasn’t fought in the division who was finished recently by pitbull? It’s sorta absurd. No one can fight everyone on the way to a title.

And why would the judges score it for conor? What is their motivation to do so?

All depends on if Volkanovski wants that belt

•Conor beats Dustin

•UFC inexplicably makes Nate Diaz vs McGregor III for the vacant title
