Don’t get me wrong, a lot of guys on here are just douchebags about it.
But it creates a natural resentment when they push WMMA more than they should and have multiple awful WMMA fights people don’t want to watch on every card.
The same shit happens in wrestling. IMO most of the hate would go away if they didn’t overbook them.
That being said, Rose was one of the truly legit ones and deserves a lot of respect. It sucks she has to go out on this note, because a lot of people just think of the Carla fight when they think of her right now because that’s the last thing they saw from her.
Carla is smaller, physically weaker and far less skilled than her. Rose has the size and the skills to destroy Esparza. The UFC gave Rose a freebie, the easiest title defense she could have asked for. A perfect opportunity to avenge the loss from 2014 (when she was only 22 and on her fourth pro fight) and prove has improved a lot more than Carla since then.
Before the fight, Rose was talking about her legacy and becoming the SW GOAT. We'd seen it before though. She gets excited after a big win, but 2 weeks later she forgets she was excited about being more active and having a dominant run, and doesn't want to fight at all.
If Rose had beaten Carla, something she should have done with ease, she would have become the first SW to beat all the other champions and remained unfeated in rematches and (at the time) as the only woman to ever reclaim a title. It's out of picture now. No one who's 0-2 against a fighter like Carla could ever be considered the GOAT in any division.
You could tell Rose didn't have many fights left in her, but she should have gone out swinging. If seeing her not even trying to fight is the last thing we saw from her, it's just sad. Equally sad is that she seems to be OK with it and not even trying to make it right.
Someone with a strong mentality would never leave like this, but her weak mentality is what prevented her from being a dominant champion, so it shouldn't come as a surprise.
