International SECDEF calls a meeting

Headlines seem to indicate a mass firing of senior officers. Seem smart.

probably, if there's over 800 in active duty imagine the number of retired. In such a huge pool it's expected to be a couple of stupid people who fell upwards

My point is that they're being stupid while safely behind a DD-214.

In the shipping industry, the Gulf of Mexico is referred to as the US Gulf or USG. I've been in the business for 30 years and it was referred to as the USG long before I started in shipping.
I did not know that. Thanks. The "Gulf of America" is still beyond retarded.

Doesn't roll off the tongue like USG or US Gulf or Gulf of Mexico.
I'm surprised I never knew about the USG or US Gulf. I've worked in shipping but only continental U.S. Is there a reasoning behind it or is it a "it is what is it is" thing?

As far as im aware, its been that way for decades

The world in shipping is broken up more or less like this

-USEC / USWC / USG / ECCAN / WCCAN
-ECSA / WCSA / NCSA / ECCA / WCCA
-CONT / MED / BLACK SEA and more specifically ARAG range (AMSTERDAM/ROTTERDAM/ANTWERP/GHENT range)
-WAF / EAF / SA
-RED SEA / PG / ECI / WCI
-SEA / NA / AUSTRALASIA (or Oceania)

I imagine it’ll be to announce policy change of some sort. Something far less menacing than you’d imagine getting all those people together from all over the world.

They're preparing to fight that incoming solar object

Probably has to do with Putin saying he's at war woth NATO and EU.
Europe is going to shoot down Russian jets soon, if they keep violating EU airspace.

The US is probably just trying to prepare for any scenario. But it's going to be a nothing burger. Putin is a little bitch that backs down when his bluffs are called. Turkiye shot down Russian fighter jets before after repeated violations and nothing happened. Putin will do nothing because he can do nothing.

Smart depends on the context. Are they getting rid of leaders who won't follow their commands to take over the country with force and replacing them with people who will?

He's wrong about the historical example. He knows nothing of history.
I'm not knowledgeable in WW2 history so I don't know, but I got the gist of what he was saying. This type of thing hasn't exactly been uncommon in past centuries.

People that come to power tend to reshuffle the power structures and put loyalists in place is just regular historical dynamics. You can find examples of that in every culture in history. It's not "fascism". Using the "everything I don't like is Hitler " argument is pathetic. It's especially cringe coming from someone who probably couldn't name one German general.

Ahh okay, now I see where your disdain for his comment is coming from and what links you're making. His over-arching point still isn't particularly wrong, but maybe not the best example.
