Sean Strickland was absolutely ROBBED...

Mod-sponsored Poll: Cannonier vs. Strickland...robbery?

None of them deserved to win imo.

Jared did not manage to open up Sean enough with leg kicks and body strikes.
Sean did not manage to melt Jared in the later rounds with volume.

Nonsense. All of the cleanest and hardest shots were landed by Cannonier, and it wasn't particularly close in that regard. 'Significant strikes' is a stupid metric when they count every one of Sean's jabs that were glancing at best and blocked completely at worst.

Is he a safe fighter? Sure. Does he lack power output? Sure. Does he bore a lot of people? Sure.

Shouldn't equate to losing a fight you win.

Jared was punching arms and air all fight. Sean lit him up with that jab, was beautifully evasive, and had Jared visibly frustrated, actually asking Sean to stop moving.

Sean landed more. Landed cleaner. Controlled the pace. Frustrated Jared. I mean come the hell on.

Sean won the damn fight.
I was doing other things whilst I watched the fight but I recall a single takedown from a caught kick and a flurry in the final round. The rest of the fight was Jared backing up Sean who was doing his tippy toes jab routine. That fight was going to whoever went forward or threw the bigger shots without some massive moments to make it stand out.

Strickland was fresh as a daisy after losing a 5 round main event against the #2 ranked guy.

He needs to think about that way more than the judges.

He could have increased volume, gotten a takedown or two, loaded up intermittently,,,,, but he chose to spar, even when his corner admonished otherwise.

His walk and his talk do not add up.

I dont get the appeal for sean. He is cringey as hell out of the ring, and in the ring its like a sparring session. I think he is one of the most over-rated fighters in the UFC.

lol you have the same energy i had when people were sayin al deserved the win over jorge

Not a robbery. I saw it for Strickland but I could see it going for Cannonier. 49-46? Not so much, but every round was exceedingly close. By the numbers, the two were within three significant strikes of one another in four of five rounds. Seriously.

Stats
R1 Cannonier 16 Strickland 13
R2 Cannonier 25 Strickland 28
R3 Cannonier 33 Strickland 35
R4 Cannonier 27 Strickland 33
R5 Cannonier 40 Strickland 43

When most of Strickland's offense is jab-oriented, bigger strikes that do more appreciable damage tend to score better. I knew this one was going to be a coin-flip when we heard the final bell.

Aren't the judges supposed to ignore superficial damage like blood as a factor? Usually the loosing fighter is the one bleeding but that doesn't mean blood = losing. It could've gone either way but the harder shots were landed by Cannonier which at a certain point means more than outpointing someone with a few more jabs.

I literally fell asleep during that fight. Woke up after it finished and asked my wife who won.

I thought the decision was fair. Honestly, it would've been more surprising if Strickland got the decision. Cannonier was doing more damage with his shots.
