I actually empathize with the "spaz".The guy is just competitive and probably forgets the "etiquette" in the "the heat of battle". I know its wrong, but alot of guys just lose reasoning ability when that adrenaline is going. It sounds like you had a choice whether to roll with him or not.
Tangent: Honestly, alot of BJJ guys nowadays are kind of pussy.Guys choose "easy" opponents to spar, avoid "spazzes" like the plague because they are afraid of their tempo, and even cry about LEGAL techniques like leglocks on wristlocks.I used to train at a well known and well respected BJJ school where ANYBODY could heelhook, toehold, wristlock or calfcrush, you could choose to wear a gi or not,and guys regularly got called out to spar.Spazzes were crushed but not really admonished. The result was that everyone was proficient at Gi,Nogi, and leglocks and most of all, everyone could fight.Guys there had pretty minimal success on the tourney scene however.Later I moved to a different school and even though the technique is superior there, guys are kind of mentally weak.Guys will begin rolls saying "Hey no leglocks ok?" and completely quit rolling if wristlocked.Guys would also pick on easier/lighter guys and completely avoid guys that rolled with a faster/ more frantic tempo.Even though they are slightly better in tourneys, alot of those guys would get their asses handed to them by athletic streetfighters if you added punches.I guys im saying that to say that IMO alot of us have pride in BJJ because it has been so successful in MMA and its NHB roots.Alot of guys look down on traditional martial arts and laugh at their ability to teach "self defense" when many BJJ guys are actually very similar.
