If you went back in time and killed Hitler when he was young, World War 2 and the holocaust would still have happened. The Treaty of Versailles created a power keg in Germany that was bound to blow up in our faces.

The same way the foundation of Nato created that same powder keg in the USSR and now Russia.

The same way the Balfour declaration created that powder keg in the arab world.

Hitler was the guy of his times basically. Political science, media and psychology were coming from the forefront at a time when the old orders/monarchies were collapsing. He was another dude coming off another Napoleon stint and declaring I am the revolution. He utilized a lot of manipulative techniques to gain the upper hand. It's true there probably would have been another war but the way Hitler went about it was unique. He wanted power and even his declaration of attack after the Reichstag fire reeked of someone just trying to grab it. Maybe there might have been another kind of Hitler but the way Hitler pushed pure cronyism with himself on top as unquestionable leader was pretty unique to himself. Hell, he even tried to replace the buildings with his very own architectural designs, and much of the structure of nazi Germany was directed by him.

Hitler bascally used modern political science and combined it with Napoleonism. Those dictators came out of a power vacuum left by monarchies and they wanted to emulate them. It's also pretty much like saying Stalin could have been anyone. They did what they did and what happened, happened,

in short because it was so systematic and widespread that it is unparalleled i history. Hitler also made it clear he only started it because he wanted to control people. It runs on that spectrum: first they came for the Jews, then they came for the gays, then they came for the disabled, then they came for me. He was running through the motions of systematically running through the entire population of everything on earth one at a time to re-engineer the wold according to his own ideal. We already know the Jews would have only been the tip of the iceberg and he had the same lined up for every race on the planet: every minority, every dark skinned person, every non-Germanic, every sick person, every disorderly person, the elderly and the unborn. He was systematically using totallised state control: data control, Identity control, birth control to systemically ID people into specific categories and push the world into an endless world of legitimized genocide. I don't think Americans realize this is why the EU is so gung ho about data protection. Hitler had this exact identification system lines up on the cards with the aim of wiping out enormous swathes of the Earth. He would never have stopped f he had won, and he was always completely unrelenting and unapologetic until the very end. He pretty much invaded Russia because e wanted to kill as many people as possible while he could. He got impatient and wanted more death sooner.

Added to that Hitler transitioned from being a global icon, to a bother, to a threat, to an enemy, to a tyrant, and all the while whle he did all that the world had no idea what he was actually doing. By the time Hitler had reached Tyrant status he was already he entire world's enemy. When the holocaust was recovered it revealed how naive they had been to believe his lies, and that anything that had transpired, and everyone who had died fighting him, had no idea what they were actually dying for. They knew it was a form of evil but no one suspected it was on that scale. They suspected it was happening but thought his desire for total annihilation as some crazy pipe dream he'd never try. Even as he was being defeated he diverted resources into exterminating more people. That tends to be why the world said never again, when it comes to believing funny haired racists making claims about restoring national pride.

If anything I'd argue focussing on the unprecedented "never again" genocide is the wrong take, when there are ongoing genocides and atrocities still happening today with groups like the Uyghurs, Rohingyas and Yazidi. It's not something we've confined to the past, not by a long shot.

There's no country in the world better educated about the holocaust than Israel, yet they have cabinet ministers like Yoav Gallant using Nazi rhetoric calling the Palestinians human animals.

I am certainly no Zionism Expert, but I think it’s important to distinguish between Zionism, and Christian Zionism specifically. One in which Anne suggest to her female friend that they show each other their breasts, although there’s no nudity in the scene:

It’s also worth noting that Maus isn’t meant for small children, it’s for middle school age and higher.

It's right wing extremists and left wing extremists. Stop thinking about politics as a straight line from left to right. It's a circle. When you go around the circle to the left far enough, you end up on the fringes of the right. Same if you go the other way.

Only 1 of the other 4 candidates even dares criticize Trump, and it’s the guy in last place <45> DeSantis and Haley are too chickenshit to do it, and Vivek spit-shines Trump’s nutsack at every opportunity.

And it’s not just about Trump. Some very dangerous things are happening in the GOP: demonizing the free press, rampant gerrymandering to hold power, stacking courts throughout the country with extremist judges, banning books left and right, shifting rights held by the people to become powers held by the state, pandering to religious zealots and white nationalists…. I honestly do not believe a lot of Christians are pro Zionist because of extremist religious views. I think it's much simpler than that.

Your math is way off. The poll doesn't suggest 1/5 Americans view the holocaust is fabricated, but shows 1/5 young adults under 30 lean that way. It breaks it down by age, race, income and political affiliation

I'm surprised it's that low. People have started noticing that the government and media narratives are often wrong and the people labeled a "conspiracy theorist" often end up being right. Covid was a big eye opener for many people.

Now when there's one narrative that's so taboo to question it's even made illegal in many places to have an opinion that differs from the narrative, naturally people are going to question that too.
