so here's a question i've been meaning to ask here, and here i am asking it:

when you say 'war (fighter name)', where did that originally come from? is 'war' an acronym for something? where was it first used?

i've been living in ignorance for too long, please relieve me of it.

I've been using it on and off for twenty years and I have no idea. First saw it on Sherdog. Then on a couple of spinoff sites that no longer exist.

My guess is that's Japlish.

Another similar example is in Konglish, where some Olympic Korean ping pong girl kept yelling "fighting!" after every serve, like 40 years ago.

I heard it on Jim Rome in the early 2000s. The original was War Eagle.

It started at Auburn University. They use it tor their sports teams.

Jim Rome was definitely the first thing I thought of too. Quite a unique show back in the day.
