saying 'war someone'

WAR is short for Warren, which of course refers to Warren G. Harding who as we all know was the 29th President of the United States. He was infamously slaughtered by Indian hordes in the Tuscaloosan uprising of 1923 due to a national security snafu and when they scalped him alive, very much alive and screaming, they knew his name but could not pronounce it fully in their native Algonquin, Wampanoag and Apache tongues so they screamed WAR! in celebration of their victory over America. And this is why to this very day we live under the rule of said tribes who were also the original founders of mixed martial arts combat and gave us the greatest fighter of all time, Kimo Leopoldo, WAR Kimo, rest in power, allegedly, supposedly. Oh and obviously Warren G is named after Harding as well. Many erroneously believed the War Moniker originated from Warren G, but alas, Warren G was a mark ass busta who gave up his rings and rolex, looked at the brothers and said damn whats next? So no, War does not refer to him.

@Drunken Meat Fist is that you?

“will always respect” = “war”

i cant believe it took this long for anyone to mention it. i guess people really forgot.
so we've got two leading candidates, it looks like, and both sides sound convinced they're right:

1) 'will always respect'
2) from auburn & 'war eagle' (stemming from war hero's eagle flying on field and then adopted as rallying cry)

the other candidates don't hold water / are unsubstantiated and so will leave them out, pending further evidence or investigation. i don't think we have clear-cut proof yet, jury's still out. the debate continues. jim rome, if you're lurking, please chime in.

so here's a question i've been meaning to ask here, and here i am asking it:

when you say 'war (fighter name)', where did that originally come from? is 'war' an acronym for something? where was it first used?

i've been living in ignorance for too long, please relieve me of it.
People have been saying it for 20 years now.

And its always been the mark of a retard

fwiw, i asked this same question a long time ago, circa 2008, on this very site. at that time, it was already a popular expression. “war” was always written in capitals. a mod explained that it meant “will always respect.” i don’t recall anyone disputing that; it seemed to be the consensus. that was the first time i encountered the expression.

if you’re really curious, perhaps there’s a way to search archives of those old threads. i’ve also seen this question pop up several times since then.
