Comedians can say whatever they want, but that does not make them free from the consequences of what they say. I find it rather absurd the pedestal that comedians are placed on in our society as though saying the most profane and obscene shit someone can think of has any kind of merit. Is there no standard anymore?

there never has been a standard.... comedy has always been the place to check your feelings at the door. If you dont like jokes about sensitive topics, dont go to comedy shows, dont watch comedy shows...... just stop having an opinion on comedy. Its not for you!

Its people like you that ruin comedy for other people!

I want to see some self-imposed standards, limits and boundaries in comedy that pushes boundaries. There is nothing clever about saying the most disgusting thing you can think of for shock value. It is just glorified poo-poo, pee-pee and bum-bum jokes that frat-boys and immature losers find funny. It is rather ridiculous what people can get away with saying by claiming it is comedy and free-speech. Just because something can be said does not mean it needs to be said.

This isn't always true. Hannibal Buress made jokes about Bill Cosby raping women and it destroyed Bill's career and brought to light an issue that had remained sort of quiet up to that point.

Thats an attack at a specific person though. I think thats different than making light of child molestation. (or rape, etc etc etc)

I think its OK to make fun of people who commit atrocious acts. I don't believe its OK to make light of atrocious acts themselves. Obviously it depends on the "joke" being made.

From the perspective of people not affected by it, sure. Personally, I find racist humor to be pretty funny. That said, its not funny to a lot of people so I don't go around telling jokes about blacks and mexicans and asians or whoever and if I did, I'd expect to have a couple of teeth knocked out for my trouble.

Are you a comedian? Do you think these comedians go around making jokes during their day to day lives?

Comedians should have free reign to push boundaries..... but they also have the right to perform the comedy they want to perform. If we start dictating to them about what they can and cant say then comedy will be pretty vanilla within a couple years!
