Not really. It is what it is, and has the roots it does. The real bonkers thing is the government getting involved and framing some "legalization" around two people tying the knot, and offering certain benefits for such a thing, that can push and pull it in either direction at any time. It's complicated though, because without them getting involved, gay marriage would've never been recognized. Now they are reliant on the government to uphold it, and the church is reliant on them to denounce it.The fact it's recognised as a religious thing is bonkers anyway, right?
Overall the relationship of church and state is the bonkers thing, but it's what we've collectively accepted for many reasons. The government is a bit of a "frienamy" to both sides.
