all of the bolded here were considered among the best strikers in the world at the time, and yet they were utterly confounded by Sambo striking what's up? Do they move in a way that perplexes them?

Dagestani / caucus fighters have come up with the best current formula for mma / mma training / strategy, plus their base is a perfect start. It’s not just striking, it’s all integrated.

This is a moment in time, it won’t last forever.

Fedor is very different than those other two. Fedor is more of judoka than a wrestler.

Sambo fighters are taught to strike in a completely different way than the popularized traditional Muay Thai/boxing style that most of the sport employs.

Its all used to setup for takedowns or sweeps. It isn't exactly a unique discipline when it comes to striking, but more of an hybrid in the stance. Less upright stance than KB and not as low as wrestling, which is sound defensively.

I would attribute it more to how disciplined these fighters with a combat sambo background seem to be, not exactly the striking as combat sambo doesn't have a unique striking discipline.

Fedor was training extensively in the Netherlands to prepare for Crocop, and he had trained here before that, as well.

Khabib's success on the feet was massively due to the grappling success he was having with Conor and the threat of the TD.

Ank probably had a good amount of supplementary training in other striking arts, too, I'm sure. Or hasn't he @HHJ ?

Ankalaev's head coach is a Muay Thai guy.

Fedor spent time in Holland to prep for Cro Cop. Fedor did a lot of work with Hoost.

I think White belts white belts have the most unique perspective on the sport. They're so stupid, they think different
Everyone was once a white belt.
