News Ryan Hall Vs Ricardo Lamas - Aug 29th

Lamas is kinda overrated. Solid fighter, but not this world beater like many peeps make him out to be.

If Hall uses his kicks at range (like he did vs Elkins), then he should honestly dictate where the fight goes.

Going with Hall by decision on this one.

I think Lamas runs through him to be honest. Hall doesn't have the wrestling to get this to the mat and his striking has no power to scare or worry Lamas, as chinny as he's become. Lamas pieces him up standing for 3 rounds or maybe even finishes him.
you need to rewatch ryan hall vs darren elkins. lamas isnt any better at this point

Nice fight. Lamas is still a tough guy and he is very well rounded. He can also put an absolute beating on you and has derailed many guys. I like Hall in this one though; I think he can win the striking battle. Lamas is also a few years past his prime at this point. The grappling will be fun if it hits the mat — Lamas has excellent sub defense and good GNP.
Nah, Lamas is way better on the feet. Hall bout to take a L

Lamas has never been submitted despite fighting some incredible grapplers in his career.
Hall does find ways to decision (on paper) better strikers than himself though.
He also fought Olivera at 155 and tapped him out

Hall is making improvements fight to fight. His style is awkward to deal with. I can see him out pointing Lamas.
Yeah if he makes another jump, which is possible, he might be able to get the UD. But how much can a guy improve without fighting that much? I admit he looked way better than I ever thought he would against Elkins, but idk if that was major improvement from Hall, or a major regression for Elkins. Maybe a little of both, but I still think this match is too much for Hall at the moment.

Elkins and Maynard were both beyond shot when Hall fought them. Lamas is certainly a step up and I think he’s capable of competing when they grapple. Lamas can at least kick, so it will be harder for Hall to set up his own kicks. It’s just a fight between one guy who is getting better each fight and is yet to reach his peak, versus a guy who’s probably 5 years past his prime at this point and is slowly declining. The style match up is not an easy one for Hall, but I will pick him mainly based off career trajectories and momentum.

IMO this matchup is basically proof the UFC hates Hall.
Lamas is a nightmare matchup at this stage in his career:
-Great TDD
-Great sub defemse
-Enough of a chin that Hall's level striking probably isn't a danger
-Small enough name that Hall winning can be dismissed/forgotten.

And even then, the thought was "theyre trying to find guys that can avoid the takedown".
It's so absurd that high level strikers get fed cans for HL KOs, but Hall seems to be only given guys with elite grappling skills to nullify his (and still managed to tap BJ)

Yeah it is a bit weird how his last 4 opponents (including Lamas) all are good to very good grapplers. They threw him a bone in PJ Penn though imo. I’d like to see Hall face a fighter who is a striker first and foremost. I think Hall might be a guy who actually matches up better with grapplers though. I think you’re right that the UFC doesn’t like Hall however.

I still think the UFC was convinced Penn could avoid the grappling with Hall due to his own elite grappling talents (even an out of shape Penn is gonna have innate knowledge of holds and ground stuff) and then just outbox him for a "send off win" without risking BJ getting brutally KOed. Same with Maynard.
