Yea it’s pretty telling huh

Well, there's not Republican they can blame for this clusterfuck.

'This is all Trump's fault' narratives have been humorous to read, but even the MSM know they can't repeat them after they got destroyed for the 'Gas & Energy Prices Are Rising Because Of Ukraine' tweet.

Although honestly the "will they, wont they?" invasion talk that dominated before this ultimately its pretty meaningless wasnt it? just saying the invasion was coming really what did that achieve? very little indeed that I can see.

I think really the question becomes, what could have been done to stop this and what still might be done?

To me it still looks like the US was happy to play a game of chicken with Putin hoping he would back down whilst not offering anything that might cause him to do so, maybe because they viewed this as a win/win situation? if Putin backs down then his credibility is badly damaged, if he invades then were likely into a much more aggressive neo cold war situation long term.

I have a fear really that whatever happens in Ukraine in the short term long term were now going to be entering a very dangerous era, you could argue I spose that maybe inevitable, that Putin always had some grand design for expansionism but it does seem likely both sides are playing a role to me.

137 casualties is actually not bad considering the damage they've inflicted on the Russians. My fear is this only forces Putin to double down and go scorched earth.

My understanding is those figures are from Ukraine so could well be exaggerated

I'd bet they are actually

Lol, RNC worked really hard to prevent this conflict by constantly sucking up to Putin. Their social media intern should just take the rest of the night off.

No need to keep dropping these turds in this thread though.

Ok, the chances are slim to nill, but if Russia's milirary is forced to retreat from a populace willing to die rather than live under totalitarian rule, it will be a fucking miracle and an inspiration that should be engraved into history.

It's never going to happen. Ukraine's early success only means Putin will go berserk. Expect civilian casualties to be considerable now.

I’m for the working class alone. I don’t support the current Ukrainian government and I certainly don’t support that gangster Putin

You do understand that both sides are exaggerating enemy casualties and lessen their own, yes? That’s how military propaganda works.

Russia is avoiding hitting the civilian objects, or casualties would be already sky-high. They even didn’t strike the barracks or similar military infrastructure.

I really don't know shit about warfare outside of science fantasy novels, and the Mack Bolan books I used read when I was kid.

Ukraine is mostly flat right? Which favors Russia.

But wouldn't the Ukraine forces have an advantage if the fighting hit the cities and the Russians had to send their soldiers in? I heard city fighting is generally unpleasant.

In the Iraq Fallujah (sp?) was supposedly a tough go for the the Americans because of that reason. Would the same be true for the Russians.

so far the UA has been relying on hit and run, not challenging them in a straight up 1 for 1. And hell the failed air assault, they basically waited for the helos to cross inland and then shredded them with stingers.

They have the capital surrounded in one day. If "bad" means good like we used to say back in the 80s, then yeah.

I mean really its very hard to know isnt it? talking up the other sides loses yes most likely, there own they could potentially play them up for sympathy or down to show strenght.

I'm against Putin, but can someone in the know explain why the issue of him wanting security guarantees wasn't more thoroughly negotiated?

Or was that just a pretext and Ukraine was always gonna be attacked since day one?

And how secure is Putin? Is the population restive enough to threaten his rule?
I'm seeing a lot of protests.

Like lets say the sanctions start to inflict pain on the average Russian. Could that trigger a coup, or a popular uprising?

The only people the sanctions will harm will be the average people. I can’t see a successful uprising in Russia any time soon but the way he spoke about Stalin and Lenin in his 45min diatribe didn’t go down well I’m sure. I could see him maybe dying due to ‘complications’ when he goes in for his next round of Botox.

Perhaps.

Putin is going to have to decide if the world knowing of thousands of innocent casualties - Women & Children - is worth the backlash he's going to receive, now that we know that sanctions aren't doing shit.

The time for the world leaders to make Putin know the consequences for his actions is now, rather than 48 hours ago.

All this has shown is that Russia would get curb stomped by America. Honestly, it’s time to start sinking Russian ships and shooting down jets. They are more afraid of us than you think. Remember when we slaughtered 300 Russians in Syria and they didn’t do fuck all about it?

Imagine having the means to go anywhere you want and live a life of luxury but choosing instead to stay and fight for your homeland. And not in a different millenia where kings were wired that way, but now...in 2022.

I salute you Kitschko brothers. Cannot say enough how much these guys should be admired.

Newsreport at the Polish boarder talks about lots of cars driving into Poland..
Mostly women and children.. The men stays behind.
There is also a lot of Ukrainian trucks going BACK into Ukraine..
The truckers did not flee but are driving back home to family and to their countries.

What a difference from certain other parts of the world..........

These dudes defeated the Nazis and changed history forever. Russians are very good at fighting wars.
And their losses was huge.
I dont see that as being good at fighting.
They kept sending millions after millions as canon fodder.

Yeah, Nazi ferocity combined with opposition cannon fodder strategy was pretty fucking ugly. The Germans stacked at least 10 million Soviet soldiers dead in direct combat (in addition to murdering another 8.7 million Soviet civilians and prisoners of war -plus- 6 million Jews, 2 million ethnic Poles, et al). However, this is certainly among the most epic moments in the history of warfare and practically fit for a movie script or some shit. The Nazis were this close to taking Moscow...

To stiffen the resolve of the Red Army and boost civilian morale, Stalin ordered the traditional military parade on 7 November (Revolution Day) to be staged in Red Square. Soviet troops paraded past the Kremlin and then marched directly to the front.

I put "on the fence".
I don't think anyone can cheer on a conflict in which civilians are being killed.

But any country that is able, is going to act in what it perceives to be its interests. Having NATO on yet another border (nevermind their most important western border) is not in Russia's interests.

Also, i sort of want to see how this turns out. I think that a quick, Decisive military action is preferable to drawn out, multigenerational fighting.
