The Russian Aerospace Forces will receive first units of the Sukhoi T-50 (PAK FA) fifth-generation fighter aircraft in 2017, Col. Gen. Viktor Bondarev, the Russian Aerospace Forces commander, said Saturday.

“There are five [T-50 fighters] at the [Russian] Chkalov’s State Flight Testing Center, they are being tested, and beginning in 2017 they will be arriving to our service,” Bondarev told reporters.

its really good looking

That is the best looking picture I've seen of it. Usually it looks kind clinky, compared to the F-22. Those cylindrical exhaust ports look pre 5th gen ; wonder why they didn't go for the straight/flat ports like the F-22.
2017 is too soon ; don't think it will happen.

its probably not gonna be very Stealthy and disperse heat as well as the F-22. The YF-23 has a better engine outlets.

Thet will produce them but not in large numbers i bet. Also there should be a T-50N for the navy soon

While the F-22 nozzles reduced its radar and IR signatures, it came at a price of reduced thrust. That is partly made up by the fact that drag is also reduced. The Russians are obviously capable of producing thrust vectoring nozzles, but I think they deemed maneuverability to be more important.

but I think they deemed maneuverability to be more important.

I'm not really familiar with the latest developments in fighter technology, but isnt maneuverability less important due to the fact that most air combat engaements take place from miles away.

you know those fuckers are gonna surprise a lot of nato aircraft near borders and over itn waters with those mofos.

Will be interesting if they ever intercept or get intercepted by F22s.

i highly doubt that they have produced a skin or stealth coating superior to our own.

Even still they will be a bitch to track, and will surprise plenty id bet.

I bet they wont flight them much due to budget constraints.

Since the Russian S-500 system can detect and shoot down low radar observable aircraft like the F-22 and F-35, the performance penalties for the 'stealth' radar signature (which can be tracked and fired upon by the Chinese and Russians) will be the deciding factor and the Russians will have the superior plane when all is said and done. The F-22 and F-35 count on engagements starting from long distance when the fact is that most engagements in contested zones will be at short distance and under the eyes of a S-500 system. America has really fucked itself badly with its weapon procurements for quite awhile now. Too bad our idiot politicians are pushing Russia to a fight.

CAnt the F22 just fire missiles into the contested zones from afar without entering it?

How do you even know it can? tts not in production or near its final specs. It's still in testing, ill wait to hear if it can do that. So far not much or anything besides MEADS can track the F-22

Most air to air kills in the past 20 years were done within visual range, despite the advance in technology. Having maneuverability and kinematic advantage mean you will come out on top in most engagements.

i wounder why they didnt use the Su-47 Berkut...

ii remember hearing this

On 11 August 2014, Commander-in-chief of the Russian Air Forces, Colonel General Viktor Bondarev claimed that Russia is still continuing the research and development of Su-47 or similar forward-swept wing fighters. The new prototypes of such aircraft will be unveiled in the near future

it was WAY more maneuverable then the F-22
