International Russia/Ukraine Megathread V8

We can't know for sure, but Russia has become isolated on the international stage and lost the pr battle by leaps and bounds. If they can make it look like the Ukrainians are behaving recklessly around the nuclear plant and putting all of Europe in danger, that will be a step towards changing public opinion in their favour.

They have lost tons of international standing & leverage during this war and are probably desperate to claw some of it back.

They're building up the ground work for when the nuclear reactor fucks up due to general incompetence.

The biggest threat to the plant isn't shelling but Russians fucking with the workers needed to run said plant or failing to adequately replace workers who are leaving due to the war.

You can't just shut down a nuclear reactor, you NEED people to run it for it to be safe.

Never heard of the guy before but I guess he's a Putin Ally.

He wrote a book in 1997 called Foundations of Geopolitics and it is often cited as being a huge inspiration on Putin, to the point that it's basically a blueprint for his actions. From the wiki:

  • Germany should be offered the de facto political dominance over most Protestant and Catholic states located within Central and Eastern Europe. Kaliningrad Oblast could be given back to Germany. The book uses the term "Moscow–Berlin axis".[9]
  • France should be encouraged to form a bloc with Germany, as they both have a "firm anti-Atlanticist tradition".[9]
  • The United Kingdom, merely described as an "extraterritorial floating base of the U.S.", should be cut off from Europe.[9]
  • Finland should be absorbed into Russia. Southern Finland will be combined with the Republic of Karelia and northern Finland will be "donated to Murmansk Oblast".[9]
  • Estonia should be given to Germany's sphere of influence.[9]
  • Latvia and Lithuania should be given a "special status" in the Eurasian–Russian sphere, although he later writes that they should be integrated into Russia.[9]
  • Belarus and Moldova are to become part of Russia.[9]
  • Poland should be granted a "special status" in the Eurasian sphere.[9]
  • Romania, North Macedonia, Serbia, "Serbian Bosnia" and Greece – "Orthodox collectivist East" – will unite with "Moscow the Third Rome" and reject the "rational-individualistic West".[9]
  • Ukraine should be annexed by Russia because "Ukraine as a state has no geopolitical meaning, no particular cultural import or universal significance, no geographic uniqueness, no ethnic exclusiveness, its certain territorial ambitions represents an enormous danger for all of Eurasia and, without resolving the Ukrainian problem, it is in general senseless to speak about continental politics". Ukraine should not be allowed to remain independent, unless it is cordon sanitaire, which would be inadmissible.[9]
In the Middle East and Central Asia:

  • The book stresses the "continental Russian–Islamic alliance" which lies "at the foundation of anti-Atlanticist strategy". The alliance is based on the "traditional character of Russian and Islamic civilization".
  • Iran is a key ally. The book uses the term "Moscow–Tehran axis".[9]
  • Armenia has a special role: It will serve as a "strategic base," and it is necessary to create "the [subsidiary] axis Moscow-Yerevan-Teheran". Armenians "are an Aryan people ... [like] the Iranians and the Kurds".[9]
  • Azerbaijan could be "split up" or given to Iran.[9]
  • Georgia should be dismembered. Abkhazia and "United Ossetia" (which includes Georgia's South Ossetia) will be incorporated into Russia. Georgia's independent policies are unacceptable.[9]
  • Russia needs to create "geopolitical shocks" within Turkey. These can be achieved by employing Kurds, Armenians and other minorities.[9]
  • The book regards the Caucasus as a Russian territory, including "the eastern and northern shores of the Caspian (the territories of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan)" and Central Asia (mentioning Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan).[9]
In East and Southeast Asia:

  • China, which represents a danger to Russia, "must, to the maximum degree possible, be dismantled". Dugin suggests that Russia start by taking TibetXinjiangInner MongoliaManchuria as a security belt.[1] Russia should offer China help "in a southern direction – Indochina (except Vietnam), the Philippines, Indonesia, Australia" as geopolitical compensation.[9]
  • Russia should manipulate Japanese politics by offering the Kuril Islands to Japan and provoking anti-Americanism.[9]
  • Mongolia should be absorbed into Eurasia-Russia.[9]
The book emphasizes that Russia must spread anti-Americanism everywhere: "the main 'scapegoat' will be precisely the U.S."

In the United States:

  • Russia should use its special services within the borders of the United States to fuel instability and separatism, for instance, provoke "Afro-American racists". Russia should "introduce geopolitical disorder into internal American activity, encouraging all kinds of separatism and ethnic, social and racial conflicts, actively supporting all dissident movements – extremist, racist, and sectarian groups, thus destabilizing internal political processes in the U.S. It would also make sense simultaneously to support isolationist tendencies in American politics".[9]
The Eurasian Project could be expanded to South and Central America.[9]

Dugin also speaks English, and has been interviewed by some American media.

Darya Dugina had been outspoken in her support of Russia’s war against Ukraine. As evidence began to pile up in April of Russian war crimes in the Kyiv suburb of Bucha, Dugina argued in an interview that the slaughter of civilians had been staged, bizarrely claiming that the U.S. had chosen the city because in English the name sounds like “butcher.” She was also sanctioned by the U.S. government in March in connection with her role in a Kremlin-run influence operation known as Project Lakhta.

"Project Lakhta," from the DOJ:

Since at least May 2014, Project Lakhta’s stated goal in the United States has been to disrupt the democratic process and spread distrust towards candidates for political office and the political system in general. Since 2014, Project Lakhta has sought to obscure its conduct by operating through a number of entities, including the Internet Research Agency (IRA).

I read the car belonged to Aleksander, her dad.
So they were probably going after him.

They were. The stuff about her is just so people don't go. Wait your killing peoples kids ( accidentally imo ) who don't have anything to do with it.

Nothing really different. Its all part of the dehumanising of Russians to subtly condone heinous shit.

Same as Russia does to Ukraine

Regardless. It's a terrible precedent. You guys are literally going to try justify a woman being blown up for online posts lol.

This will end well I'm sure

Either its a mistake... or journalists are now fair game if they say shit you don't like or consider false. Take your pick .

Even her father isn't a politician. Or general.

It is thought that her father, the Russian philosopher Alexander Dugin who is known as "Putin's brain," may have been the intended target of the attack.

Mr Dugin is a prominent ultra-nationalist ideologue who is believed to be close to the Russian president.

According to Russian media outlet 112, the pair were due to travel back from an event on Saturday evening in the same car before Mr Dugin made the decision to travel separately from his daughter at the last minute.

Despite not holding an official position in government, Ms Dugina's father is a close ally of the Russian president and has even been branded "Putin's Rasputin".

The philosopher's daughter, Darya Dugina, was herself a prominent journalist who vocally supported the invasion of Ukraine.

Never heard of the guy before but I guess he's a Putin Ally.

Based on pictures, looks like Dugin' daughter, Daria Dugina was killed. I've read 4th political theory and many of his other writings, hard to imagine this being militarily useful

I'd honestly never heard his name till now. His writings pretty nutty?

Russia claims it was forced to attack Ukraine because it's a den of extreme nationalists. Dugina very much fits the bill for that. It seems like he's fair game based on Putin's own words.

Was it sanctioned by the Ukrainian government? I doubt it. Regardless, Russia has killed many daughters at this point in the war. The family ties between the two countries ensure these types of attacks for the next generation. This is the result of launching a brutal campaign on a neighbor. A stupid thing to do when you can't finish the opponent. Hundreds of destroyed family members inside Russia plotting their revenge.
