@SandisLL How do you think, does this decision have something to do with the previous NATO summit that happened a week ago? The timing is amazing.

Maybe Washington ordered us to do this. Or maybe the summit didn't fufill our expectations, we got a reality check and have to resort to this to cover ourselves.

Because this feels like a rushed decision. I like it, but it feels very sudden. No prior discussion.

We begin next year. Deal with it. Pabriks flipped his stance upside down. In february he was screaming louder than anyone that mandatory service isn't happening, when the topic first came up.

Shaaaaaady.....
Tbh situation changed a lot since February, think politically is waaay more easy push it today, so people will not mind much even if he did a 180°

Likely is as you say, but still guess one can appreciate them doing such change of position when needed rather than have shit politicians sticking with their previous position no matter what

Btw i doubt Lithuania will be left alone, unlike Ukraine troubles in your nation would instant compromise also the situation of bunch other nations
I think NATO would WW3 over Lithuania, while i doubt they will for Ukraine

You lucky you manage to miss it lol

Funny how things change back in early 2010s even we had discussions if conscription should be abolished.

Now its making comeback like kongo against barry

I browsed reddit (lol) to see what people think about this and looks like another thing that might be making a comeback is mass emmigration.

I never really understood why people complain about it its only 1 year max and you are not send to fight anywhere. Its only defensive

Personally i took it as experience that you cant get anywhere else really.

The stuff is that mando service can't automatically increase equipment etc + pro and national guard etc services too should be kept + with all expenses on purchases of course...
If there quickly mando conscripts will be added...
Then with 2,3-2,5 % from GDP will not be enough....

+ Imho to get more random lads isn't like to get more SAM stuff or MRLS or even mortars....

While if about Lituania you most likely are correct.
It isn't Ukraine and west might loss damn a lot $ quickly and damn a lot later...
Plus " cool effect on eurozone...it will be ....almost like 0 hope...
...

While I more support equipment stocks increase etc and better stuff .. . + yeah, more troops stationed with ....something usable....

This too does cost $.
Mando to add here.....

IMHO one comparison maybe might be this:
u get dude with M-16 from 1970 ies.
Ws dude with assault rifle equipeed with underslug grenade launcher and modern sights....
etc alike.
+ anti tank stuff and air defense too does cost money. .

well, a very elaborate suicide

IF.
A pro is a pro. Like all jobs.
Conscript is conscript.

Since we are full NATO member country....
Theoretically our lads, even reservists might be sent f.e if Turkey or Denmark will be invaded....
If gubbermint will decide to do this.
Denmark okey....
If this will be Turkey or....like this...

750 billion estimate will continue to rise as the destruction continues. Welcome to your new Trillion dollar proxy war.

I mean who could have possibly foreseen Russia taking the donbas and establishing military lines and shelling the shit out of each other's civilians like the past 8 years.........

What a absolute waste of lives.

In regards to the repair bill .. don't worry everyone's signed up.

Representatives from more than 40 countries alongside nearly 20 international organizations have promised to support Ukraine on its path to recovery amid Russia's ongoing war.

The countries agreed to "fully commit to supporting Ukraine throughout its path from early to long-term recovery and linking this to Ukraine's European perspective and EU candidate country status," according to a joint statement dubbed the Lugano Declaration that was made at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Lugano, Switzerland.

Representatives of the Council of Europe, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the European Commission, the European Investment Bank and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development also signed the pledge.

Yeah I know no one wants to hear it.

I understand Iran and China doing those exercises, but LOL at Russia doing them on the other side of the planet while having a thousands of kilometers long war front open at their neighbors house for 5 months now. (With part of its own territory being shelled on daily basis too)

Seems odd to me as well. But they obviously think they can deal with it. We'll see how it plays out.

Some random A-Hole posts something online without links or actually facts and he is now the great truth lol.

90% of it will get skimmed off by various contractors, politicians, and power brokers. Ukraine ain't gonna see more than 5-10% of it at most. It's pretty much like an IMF project where the money brokers get their cut and the party receiving their "aid" gets turned into a nation of debt slaves.
