huh? My whole point is, we consistently say we can’t fund things like, say — childcare tax credits. Then we turn around on a dime and give 50 billion to Ukraine. You don’t see that as a problem?
I’m not in favor of nearly ANY government programs, but if we’re going to drop 50 billion here with NO return, why not just find something fruitful.
And the BBB was over a TRILLION of bloat which would have made the inflation rates even worse. So no, I don’t think that should have been passed.
You already received your return.
American involvement in this war is because you signed up to a massive nuclear de-proliferation agreement with ukraine.
They got paid in full decades ago when Ukraine relinquished the third largest nuclear stockpile in the world.
You found something fruitful. It's the fruitiest fruit that ever fucking fruited.
Nuclear Winter is the single greatest preventable threat to human life as we know it. Whatever government programs you're alluding to...
They're not important.
Objectively speaking there is nothing that is more important than preventing nuclear winter. We lie to ourselves, we live in a bizarro world where we convince ourselves that all these other issues we fight over are the most important things to our society. They're not. If these issues go wrong there's no 10/100's millions of human lives lost in an instant. There's no millions of people burnt alive. There's no billions of people starving to death as ensuing mass forest fires blanketing Europe, America, Russia block the sun and the entire world plunges to -30.
America made an agreement in the Budapest Memorandum that denuclearized 3 countries. One of whom had the third largest stockpile in the world.
If there wasn't something in it for America the agreement wouldn't have been made. In fact they got a near instant return with an upfront cost of nothing.
It's not a case of whether you're getting a return on spending now. It's a case of whether you will back up an agreement that you made with multiple countries. Whether you can be trusted to back up your word in a nuclear deproliferation treaty. Not just the Budapest agreement, it's any agreement ever. If this isn't backed up any future roll for America in nuclear deproliferation is basically fucked. Your word will be dog shit.
I get you're an isolationist kinda guy and I applaud that.
But if my country signed one of the biggest nuclear deproliferation treaties in existence and then reneged on it because it wasn't willing to add an additional 1% to spending to back it up...
No words would be able to describe the shame.
