I disagree completely man. I don’t think he wanted all of Ukraine, or the west specifically

Well, there's no other reason to have your armor exposed outside the capital if you have zero plans to attack it.

You keep theorizing that stupid tactics are somehow brilliant. No ones buying it. So instead of asking poorly thought out questions, explain to us the tactical reason russian forces being positioned where they are.

There’s no way for them to get than number of casualties. It’s not posted anywhere nor there’s any valid source unless you want to take Ukrainian account.

Whether it was hacked or just some dumb author posted it to make things spicy, but that number is not even theoretically possible given the information we have.

A) I don't know what website they're talking about
B) I'd be highly surprised if the Kremlin would give real figures to a media outlet.. even if they're " pro Russian "
C) the mysterious Ukrainian is just propaganda

So no I don't buy that article... at all

But could it be real numbers? Sure. But I consider that article to be highly unlikely

Even that would be near impossible just based on #'s. Comms are too good now for everyone with cell phones and stuff. Insurgents hiding out in one part of the city will get a heads up way before the Russians got there to clear it. They'd just keep moving, hit and run, move, hit and run. They know the city far better than the invaders do. And it's simply too much space and too many neighborhoods and buildings for an invading force that size to control. Even the best large scale door to door fighting force in the history of humankind (the US Marines) would have issues with a city that size. And the Russians...are not the US Marines.

I think Putin is smart enough to know it too. Getting 100k troops or more bogged down in Kyiv fighting endless battles with roving bands of militias is not what he wants. At all.

I certainly don’t agree with the way Putin decided to handle it, it could’ve been done much easier and even without a military conflict.

Zelensky is an absolute clown and his ratings were in the toilet. Why not orchestrate another Maidan and get a pro Russian president installed?

Unless of course, Putin has much different goals in mind such as changing the world order by creating a bipolar world system with the West and China / Russia being on opposite sides. Ukraine is an unfortunate battleground in this case.

Now, Putin has no choice but to win and win big. Negotiations which would result in Russia pulling the forces back right now would be an ultimate defeat as regardless of what Ukraine signs now, nothing will stop them from reversing their decisions while NATO gets stronger in the east and will pump more weapons into Ukraine.

At this point, the best case scenario for Russia is taking the entire east of Ukraine, encircling Kiev, getting Zelensky to sign whatever he needs to sign and then leaving Russian forces in Ukraine for the foreseeable future to ensure they don’t back on their signatures.

Then again i was saying this invasion won't happen

Going into a city like Kiev would be an absolute disaster. The only option is the full blockade of the city with precision strikes on military objects and supplies. Eventually the city will have to give up.

I think you’re making my point. Taking Kiev is impractical and an absolute nightmare unless you’re poised for a slaughter, which i don’t think he is

I also did not think the invasion would happen in the slightest. This is a horrific development.

Taking Ukraine in a week is possible, but that would be taking a graveyard with nothing and nobody left alive.

Putin expected less military resistance and more civilian welcome in the east, I think. It didn’t happen.

You can’t get over that i have not once said this was “good” or “brilliant” or any of the superlatives you keep associating with my assessment.

I think Putin’s plan has been to encircle Kiev and choke them out to force negotiations from a position of strength. As others have noted, on this page, trying to take Kiev is and would be a disaster. He would probably be successful, but at an unsustainable cost.

You can’t conceive that he doesn’t want Kiev. That’s fine. Many people disagree and I think we’re more grounded in reality than you are. He has close to zero incentive to take it other than completely controlling Ukraine, which I don’t believe to be his motive

Yeah I kept telling people here that even if lots of Ukrainians speak Russian they still think themselves as Ukrainian

Harkiv has heaviest resistance and its rus speaking city

I’m fairly confident that the original intent was to scare Zelenskys government into exile and then take Kiev using an air bridge at Hostomel within the first 24-48 hours.

Is this where I point out that you just lied in a post about me? You don’t ask questions you make statements and if someone disagrees you tell them how much smarter than them you are.

Then all he had to do, after he declared the breakaways to be independent, was to move his troops officially into those regions in their "defense". That probably would have worked and not drawn half the condemnation.
