Russia/Ukraine Megathread V5

Does seem shoddy from unicef and there's both sides claiming opposition points. So I'll take your points on board. Cheers for a rational discussion . Hard to find a non bias source on it sadly

Putting it another way: say the current sanctions on Russia last 10 years, and that Putin is still in charge then. If he says that over 2 million Russian children starved to death due to the West's brutal sanctions, would you take that at face value?

this is pretty interesting and could indicate things both ways. Either Russia feels they have the upper hand and want to put an emphasis on it, that they have these missiles they have threatened with in the past, and with NATO not coming, it is a nail in the coffin and Zelensky needs to stop... which is why Putin rejected peace talks this past weekend to level Mariupol and have some shows of force like this.

Or, with NATO and other countries not coming to save the day, but Russia is also feeling the pressure at home and feels a few more big haymakers can seal the deal. But that could also make them blow their load, as a number have suggested is the case, where Russia cannot maintain and needs it to end ASAP.

Based on what I have seen, I think the prior, and this is them testing the international community waters, seeing the general response, and after achieving some better land positions are now going to drop the hammer harder and get what they want.

And this isn't being pro russian, I just think that now that Mariupol is being leveled, along with lack of Western Support, the Russians now have pretty open Eastern Ukraine to advance through and take even more strategic positions and further encircle various urban centers.

When you say “take EVEN MORE strategic positions” can you please explicitly state what these positions are?

This is what I read on here today.
"Putin is looking for a out"
"Russia is losing"
"Russia is running out of missiles"
"Russia is getting crushed by sanctions"
"Russian military is running out of ammo and food"

But now all the sudden they have the power to move into other countries? Cmon guy, people need to open their eyes and question what the media is telling you.
. Putin is looking for a out: No, I don't think so. He still wants the Ukraine and will get it. He will not 'lose face' over this.
. Russia is losing: Round #1. We have 11 more rounds to go.
. Russia is running out of missiles: Not running out. Their logistics sucks. They will get replacements.
. Russia is getting crushed by sanctions: Yes, it is. The war will continue.
. Russian military is running out of ammo and food: Logistics again. They suck at it. They will get both eventually, either by truck or airdrop.

* Does the Russian Army suck? Yes. Will they still take over the Ukraine? Yes. The sooner Putin gets taken out, the sooner this will be over.

there was on the ground contemporary reporting from respected western sources. Do you work for an NGO or is this just a weird tick of yours?

Fear at the end of the Basra road | Iraq | The Guardian

That's irrelevant to what I'm saying. The claim is not that no water treatment plants were destroyed: it's that such a thing lasting almost a decade, being a nationwide phenomenon and contributing to hundreds of thousands of child deaths is preposterous. That article is a report from one city in 1991: how many children died there, and how about the entire rest of the country?

The loon I'm talking about is Thomas Nagy, and his claim was that it was covert operations by the US that had apparently caused widespread malfunction of water treatment. That was debunked by Michael Rubin.

No, I don't work for an NGO. What would that have to do with anything? My "weird tick" is that I hate fraudulent and false claims about mass death in wars and war-adjacent circumstances.

there is PHYSICAL evidence of over 1600 vehicles being destroyed. You put 3 men per vehicle and you are at 4800 deaths easily. This doesn’t take into account any paratroopers or ground units.

ill go for more conservatives estimates of 7000+. The British MOD and DoD guess around that much, that still an insane amount

i wouldnt go as far as to say it sucks. Id say lack of preparation and corruption from Putin's "friends" really hurt them.

He'd be stupid to pull troops from the Border running along the china

Ultimately who gets to decide whether to surrender Mariupo or not? The Civil War of the US was considered basically over when Robert E Lee surrendered his army even though there were still active units. IIRC President Jefferson Davis wanted to continue the fight via guerilla warfare but Lee was like ""nah bruh" and that was basically it.

If the Mayor of Mariupol cries "Uncle!" could Zelensky could do anything to stop it?

All reports point to the military there knowing full well they are dead men walking and every hour more they last is a key victory for the future of their entire Country.

when you can't import anything are inherently linked and lasting. that's just an insane take

it's a war crime that continually lasts for years and you're out here minimizing the spillover. might want to give that pause

Well.. if children " are those under 18 and they've been starving for 8 years.... maybe but Id doubt it.

But fair play to you. I should examine recent past history with the same distrust I have for current information.

Always enjoy learning something new each day. Cheers bud

with any luck, maybe putin will accidentally poison himself or jump out of an apartment window. just like all of his dead political opponents and those independant russian journalists.

he just arrested his spy master or head of intel, apparently hes doing a little purge.

I think the donbas military line is almost isolated. Once that occurs I think they'll be willing to " peace talk "

i'd say that guys probably going to be ingesting poison and then jumping out of a window. good ole' vladdy, always keeping the peace.

the way its taken almost a month and they still havent taken over ukraine, let alone have much to show for their efforts, i figured there should have been alot more of putin's top yes-men who "accidentally" fell out of a window by now.

Then you explain it then.

We're being told Russia is losing, they're out of fuel and ammo oh and food. Ukraine is winning. Russias tech is old AF and a joke. Their military is not trained well at all. On and on and on. You've said some of these things yourself.

NOW we're told they could move into other countries and they're getting ready for it. So please explain. Is Russia losing and weak? Or are they such savages they can take Ukraine and others?
Who said they are losing? Everything is pointing to a stalemate with Russia achieving zero momentum.

What would “winning” be to Russia? Is losing 7500+ men and controlling ONE city in a month “winning” to them? They can’t even control a city that has been without power and water for an entire week now, we still have videos daily coming out of Mauripol.

At what point does Russia start “losing” to you? If it stays this way for another 2 weeks? A month? Two months? Make no mistake about it if Russia can’t gain any momentum they will lose this war on a linear timeline.

He'd be stupid to pull troops from the border running along China.
I think he (Putin) already has. Everything is going to Ukraine. China would still have to deal with Russian ICBMs.
The guy is bringing help from Syria and hiring mercenaries. Our 1:10 ratio of Ukranian dead to Russian dead may be going up to 1:20. WWII ratio. Putin will draft and send every able body Russian male between the ages of 18 to 55 to fight in the Ukraine if he has to.
Ukraine will eventually run out of bodies to fight this war. Just like Nazy Germany in WWII.
I think Zelensky should re-think his long term strategy. He may just wipe out 75% of the male population in Ukraine.

I think he wants Crimea back at the very least.

Everyone in that region should be wary. Putin has made it clear he's willing to declare war to regain territory they lost long ago.

Your neighboring country is at war...
But somehow "!ool!11 why are they defending their boarder??" is a question.

There is this old saying.. "better safe than sorry".
